we are sailing next month on the noordam and if we like it we are thinking of taking the 17 day cruise the following summer on the same ship. Can anyone tell me if HAL has a program like many lines that allows you to purchase future cruise deposits that give you an on board credit and pay a reduced deposit while I wait for a sale?

Your deposit will be just $100 pp, and it can be for a specific cruise or a TBD. The OBC will depend on the length of cruise and class of cabin booked, so that will not be set at the time of deposit for a TBD cruise. You have up to 4 years to use it or you lose it ... no refunds. However, if you put a deposit on a specific cruise and change your mind, it can be transferred to a different cruise.
Look in your Daily Program for the Future Cruise Consultant hours.

Do you know what the obc's would be for a ten day or a 17 day in either a SY or SC suite? (yup haven't even left yet and am already drooling for next year lol)

We just bought a Future Cruise Deposit. The paperwork reads for a voyage of 12+ days it is $50pp inside or outside; $75pp verandah and $100pp for a suite category. Two years ago we booked a deluxe suite for 16 days and did receive the $100pp.
Also, at the time of booking there are no additional deposits required.

When we were aboard Eurodam last April we booked a 10 day cruise on the Zuiderdam for Jan 2010 on a verandah stateroom. We were given $70 pp. A regular inside and outside $50 pp and a suite $100 pp. Over 12 days everything doubled. Good luck and happy cruising.

Another way to get on board credits for each cruise is to purchase 100 shares of Carnival stock.
On our last cruise we had $950.00 worth of on board credits.
The Carnival stock has paid for itself with on board credits

and yes I do know I can have this all answered on the ship next month but I am too busy plotting away and want to have my husband all talked into it before hand lol
If there are three of us in the family does that mean I purchase three one hundred dollar credits and each of us gets an on board credit at sailing or do you only purchase for the first and second person (credits usually go for them only) if so how does the third person deposit work?

Yes -- it is a great deal!!
We have a couple of deposits for cruises which we haven't decided on yet.
Love that the fact that the ship board credit can be combined with any other shipboard credit that you may get from your TA, owning stock, etc.

So if I purchase three FCC's while on board for 100 each, and we book three people in a SC suite for the 17 day cruise the deposit is only 100 for each of us and all three of us get a 100 on board credit not just the first and second passanger? that would be great!

scratched ...
??? Not sure what that means, sorry if it is a dumb question, I just have never heard of more than the first and second person in a cabin getting an on board credit.l

scratched ...
??? Not sure what that means, Deleted or Canceled. It means he posted something, but changed his mind and "scratched" it, like a horse scratched (removed) from a race. :):) Once something has been posted it can only be removed completely by a Host.

The confirmation letter we received last December indicated that the offer (I surmise that means the reduced $100/person depost and whatever OBC) is applicable only to the first 2 passengers in a cabin. Also, the future deposit may not be applied to Grand World Voyages or segments thereof.

I kinda recall comments some weeks ago that HAL was offering increased or double OBC for future definite (as opposed to a to-be-determined) cruises booked onboard ... but doing so on select ships and/or sailings only. So, I believe the amounts you mention were an anomaly (spelling?) rather than the norm.

well that would certainly work for me- I will book it that day for double, I already know when I want to go and what cabin.

Keep in mind that HAL was offering double to passengers on select ships or sailings who booked while onboard. The offer of double OBC did not apply fleetwide. Maybe it was a pilot program or something dreamed up by the marketing gurus.

The Carnival stock has paid for itself with on board credits
So, if I buy the stock, is there anything else I need to do to get the credits? How does it work -- do you have a special code or something that you mention when booking? Do "they" notify you of how much the credits will be? Please elaborate.

For the obc for stock ownership, you'll need to fax proof of your ownership to HAL. Information to the specifics is on the Carnival Corp. site (http://phx.corporate-ir.net/phoenix.zhtml?c=140690&p=irol-sharebenefit).

Thx Mary Ellen -- I tried to find this on the Carnival website but couldn't. This webpage states the obc is available for sailings thru July 2010 -- does it usually get renewed (yearly or ??)? Has it been going on for a long time (i.e., so it is likely to continue in the future)?

I don't the specifics, but this benefit has been around for some time. It has been renewed time and time again - but past history is no guarantee of future performance. ;)

True, but it shows a desirable pattern. Thx again.

I think a share is selling around $26.60 -- so 100 shares would cost $2660.

If you book or put down a deposit while on a cruise, does that then mean HAL is the travel agent for you and use of my HOME TA is out of the question? I love my TA and have never had a problem...but such a deal to book on board

When you book onboard, you can either attach that booking to your current desired T/A ... or you can leave it with HAL and transfer it later to any T/A of your choosing.

One of the questions that the Future Cruise consultant on board should ask you is if you want to use the same TA.
We always say yes as we have used the same TA for over 23 years.
Love booking while cruising and getting that extra shipboard credit.

Does anyone know the hours of the future cruise consultant's office? I would like to book again while I'm on board in 10 days. But, last time I tried to do this, there was a long line, and I didn't want to wait.
Also, I may want to buy credits for my daughter and I for the next two cruises we want to take. Can I purchase 4 credits, but use them 2 by 2? Or if I buy 4 at a time, do I have to use them all together?
Thank you all for the advice!

I don't know the hours ... it'll be announced onboard or will be printed in the dailies delivered to your cabin. My suggestion: go visit the FCC as early as possible during your cruise ... I went the second day of our 14-day sailing and it was a walk-up, no lines. Way more crowded as the cruise progressed.
As to buying future cruise options, you may buy as many as you please ... they are good for 4 years and are totally non-refundable. I believe that when you make the $100 deposits for a to-be-determined cruise, you must do so for specific persons ... I do not think these deposits are transferrable. So, if you make four deposits in your name, all four of them will be applied for your cruise booking. If you want to make $100 deposits for your daughter, they must be in her name. You can buy two for you and two for her, and each of you may use your deposits independent of each other ... meaning, you do not have to travel on the same sailing.

FCC hours are listed in the daily program.
We always see the FCC within the first couple days of the cruise -- less people and line goes quickly.
You can buy as many future cruise credits as you want for your daughter and you. One time we bought 6 since we knew what 3 future cruises we wanted to book.
Just remember that the $100 deposits go on your credit card -- not your shipboard account.

We were on our first HAL cruise (we have done Princess several times) last April. The cruise was great so we asked about the future cruise credit. While they do have one, I was dissappointed that it wasn't nearly as good as Princess. The OB credits were about half what Princess does. Also, Princess gives a full refund if not used in the four-year period. When I asked why it wasn't more competive, their response was they don't "need" to be! I thought that was a bit arrogant. However, I did put a future cruise deposit simply because I know I'll be taking another HAL cruise. I just thought they should try to be more competitive.
