I've just noticed that PBS out of Spokane is airing the segment of Back to the Floor which features the manager of a cruise line attempting to do the jobs of some of his crew. It's on Sunday night, the 14th at 10:30 p.m. mountain standard time and repeats 15th at 3:30 am.

Saw that program when it first aired and it was NOT "the manager of a cruise line" it was Mickey Arinson, owner of Carnival Cruise Lines working in different departments on the ship including selling drinks by the pool. :D It was interesting but just from watching the program I knew I would never go on a Carnival ship - too wild and crazy for me.

The most important part of that report I think should point out that after Mr. Arison's participating in that show and doing the work his employees do, he made REAL changes to their conditions.

When he learned why a young woman had to pay someone to help her do her job as it was impossible for her to be able to do it all and still have 5 minutes to eat her lunch, he made changes.

When he had to work in the uncomfortable uniforms some were wearing and suffering in while doing their jobs, he ordered new ones from more appropriate fibers.

He learned alot and used those lessons to make conditions better for crew members.

Oh my gosh - now that you mentioned that it was Mickey Arinson who changed roles, I remember that show quite well.

Gee - thought we had something new here.
