"Worth it" is in the eye of the beholder. They are very nice cabins, with much more room and a larger balcony. They do not have the amenities that the SA,SB, SC & PH suites have (Neptune lounge, etc). I love suites, not sure if I was happy with the AFT VA when I booked, if I would be happy with a $1,200 upgrade. Maybe to a SC or similar. Having said that, it is a 12 day cruise, and $50/pp per day (hey, I sound like a salesman).
Good luck, and I'm sure you'll be happy either way

We just turned down a similar upsell offer for our Baltic cruise that leaves in 10 days (hoping they'd get more interesting as we got closer - not sure they will).
We were in SS and SY on our most recent Oosterdam cruises and opted for the VF when we booked this one.
In my opinion the SS and SY was not worth $1200 more cost to me. Of course, I may wish I'd taken them up after sailing in a VF - we'll see.

I'd stay with the aft cabin. If it were a suite (with neptune priviledges) then I might be tempted.

I would not consider $1,200 upsell to be that great of an offer. Hope they can come down a bit for you.;)

We just accepted an offer on our b2b-Barcelona-Venice-Venice ,24 days in July on the Oosterdam. VC to SY $529 pp for 2(there are 3 in the room). The first offer was $700+pp a few days earlier that my TA turned down as too expensive. They came back a few days later with a second offer.

I don't think we will be taking it at that price....may think about it if it comes down. I am glad to hear about yours as a comparison. thanks!

We booked a VC guarantee for our October cruise because it is very port intensive. We will rarely be in the cabin so why pay for something you are not using?

 ouch that is a very high price to pay for an upsell from a VA to a SY or SS I am not so sure that is not pretty darn close to what the difference would have been if you had bought it to begin with. I would certainly hold out for a better offer. You are a few weeks away so most likely there will be better offers. Be sure to tell your TA that this one is not what you want but would consider another at a lower price. Sometimes TA's figure you do not want to upgrade if you turn down the first offer.;)

Good advice Lisa;). Just had a conversation with my TA the other day. She wanted to know how high we would “pre-authorize” her to go on an up sell and which specific cabins we would consider (I do not want an up sell to another guarantee cabin, want a specific one if I’m paying extra). She will not bother us on any high offers from HAL but instead just let them know the price she is authorize to up sell to.

PS: Lisa, Did you get a job offer from HAL Yet?

We're on the Oosterdam on 6/24...we were offered VE to SY for $500pp a few weeks ago, and I turned it down. Last week, we got VE to SS for $299pp and we took it.

We were offered an upsell last week on the Noordam 6/28 from a VF to an SS for $395 pp., which we turned down. Our VF is well located ( I hope) and on the land starboard side, which we wanted. The itinerary is port intensive. TA said HAL said they had quite a few SS's available and were making the offer to VF thru VA holders.
We have an AFT verandah on our Eurodam Cruise, and I don't think I would give that up!

That's an extra $100/day for.............what? A slightly larger cabin but no suite priviledges. Is it a port-intensive cruise meaning you won't spend all that much time in the cabin anyway?
The highest category we've had is a VA on Eurodam - really nice. And that was an upsell from a G-obstructed view. We made a counteroffer to HAL's initial ridiculous price & eventually negotiated our way to choose from the available balcony cabins.
But......you chose that aft VA - do you really want to give up that location and balcony? It's going to be really nice back there. I'm not sure I would give that up in the Med.
Have a great time, wherever you end up. :)
