Our family - a group of 10 - will be on the New Year's Westerdam cruise. My husband and I were on a small yacht cruise years ago and stopped for a fun day at Jost Van Dyke. I think it is very close to St Thomas. Does anyone know if any independent companies have catamarans that go there for the day, or is the Westerdam's Champagne Cruise to Tintamar about as good?
We are really trying to keep this cruise very low key, lots of relaxing and swimsuits - so the hiking and more active excursions are not what we're looking for. Also - would love to hear from anyone who has taken the island snorkle trip from Tortola. Thank you very much for your help!

Have only been to Jost Van Dyke off of small sail boat yacht charters -- it certainly is fun, and quiet (well, sort of, after all there is happy hour and evenings at Foxy's -- quiet NO, relaxing YES) -- it is closer to Tortola than St. Thomas -- I do not know if going there and returning without missing your ship makes sense. Jost Van dyke is north of Tortola -- the brochures say the ships dock at Road Town which is in a bay on the south side of the island -- you would have to either drive across the island and then cross to Jost Van Dyke or go all the way around the island -- a seemingly big trip in a small amount of time unless you have a very fast boat.
If you go take insect repellent as last June the no-see-ums were more vicious than Alaskan mosquitos. I react badly to their bites and I cannot even count the number of bites I had after eating dinner at a beachfront restaurant and a few drinks at Foxy's. Had a wonderful time though!

Bitter End Yacht Club is on Virgin Gorda (which is south of Tortola which is why there are excursions to the baths which are also on Virgin Gorda). Jost Van Dyke is in the other direction.

We took a ferry over to Jost on our Volendam New years cruise last year.
They have scheduled ferry service from Sopers Hole for $15-20 roundtrip.
Take a cab from Roadtown to Sopers. It's pretty cheap but can't remember the exact price.
The ferry dropped us off about a hundred yards from Foxy's.. It was raining and pretty dreary. Foxy's is a different kind of place, plenty of bugs and more like an outpost then a fancy bar.
We took a cab over to Whites Bay (I think) which was very nice but again primative.. Spent the day lounging swimming and drinking and then headed back to Sopers Hole. We spent the rest of the day at Pussers watching the yachts come and go. Even saw Peter Jennings and his family pull in for a bite to eat. Took the cab back to the ship in plenty of time.
