According to a German online news (http://www.net-tribune.de/nt/node/4254/news/Flussreisesparte-der-Reederei-Deilmann-ist-insolvent) report Deilmann River Cruises had to file for - the German version of - Chapter 11 today. All river cruises in 2009 will be completed. All deposits are safe. According to this article its mainly because of low bookings from the US and UK.

Deilmann river cruises has already sold the PRINCESSE DE PROVENCE (but leased back for 2009). Also for sale or sold is the KÖNIGSTEIN which is not operating in 2009. Also not operating in 2009 is the DRESDEN.

Only two days ago Deilman river cruises US announced (http://www.travelpulse.com/Resources/Editorial.aspx?n=57325) that bookings for 2010 will be accepted by August 1st.

Not affected is the ocean going vessel MS DEUTSCHLAND. Deilmann announced that they will continue the operation of the MS DEUTSCHLAND in 2010.

Truly sad news.

My husband and I had the great and fortunate opportunity and pleasure to cruise with Peter Deilmann in 2006. A superb, first-class operation and river cruising experience. Deilmann was our "yardstick" of comparison when we took our AMA river cruise last year. Hands down and without a doubt, no comparision.

A huge loss for the river cruising industry.

nyfeds,

Yes, I totally agree with you. We had two wonderful cruise experiences although one cruise was more a bus ride due to high water. Deilmann did the best to make this a memorable vacation despite the problems caused by mother nature. Truly the best service and food you can get on a cruise ship.

sure a bit of both. tell you one thing, this is a wonderful time to buy consumer items!! those who are economically ok now after the meltdown, will be ok. i am very sympathetic to those who have lost jobs. have devastated 401's and distressed debt!

we didn't have any major losses to any cruise operators here in Australia due to the GFC, infact I think our visitations by cruise ships in Cairns for 2010 are up from previous years
