My husband and I will be going on our first cruise on the Navigator--Monte Carlo to Athens--on July 10. I have what may be a silly question, but need someone's help! We'll be staying in Athens at the end of the cruise for a few nights and I'm trying to arrange transport from the port to our hotel. We are scheduled to dock at 8:00am and I'm wondering what time should I tell our taxi service to be there to pick us up? I don't have any idea how quickly we'll be leaving the ship since we've never done this before. Thanks for any info you can give me!

We will also be on that cruise. Our taxi/tour company said they would meet us at 9. I hope that helps!

When you fill out your debarkation document, you will indicate your transportation once you leave the ship. Generally, if you have made arrangemenets for 9:00 a.m., Regent will give you a luggage tag color that will ensure you depart the ship in time.

Hi, we are on the Navigator the month after you, August, Monte Carlo to Athens and I hadn't thought about transportation into Athens. If anyone knows this one please help me out...can I arrange for transfers on board the ship and pay for them with my shipboard credit? Thanks!

Not to worry. Do not prearrange transportation. We found there were lots of cabs waiting to take us to downtown Athens. Cheaper too!

I believe you can book transfer arrangements on board, and I'm betting you can use your credits, but I'd ask when I board.

Hopefully last question on this subject (at least for me!)......

How long does it take to get all the passengers disembarked? Is 9 the earliest anyone would be able to be off and on their way? I'm not exactly in a rush as I can't check into my hotel until 11, so would having my transportation meet us at 10 be a good idea?

Thanks for any advice!

I did the exact same thing last summer - finished the cruise in Athens and stayed a few days on my own. I took the latest departure time from the ship (I think this was around 10, but I really can't remember) I was in no rush and many were. There were tons of cabs.

Just a word of warning - it's NOT always easy to get a cab on the day of disembarkation in Athens. We've done it twice, and the first time, we were fortunate enough to have made our own arrangements so our cab was waiting. I cannot tell you how many (hundreds, if not thousands) of people in line we walked past to get to our cab. They all had to wait for theirs, God only knows how long. So, if there are lots of ships (think the mega variety) in port, you would be VERY WISE to prearrange your cab.

That said, our second time in Athens wasn't as bad - there were cabs to be had everywhere, so apparently not as many ships in port disembarking.

I have a very reliable cab service I have used (and know of many others who also use him) - if you want, I can give you his contact information. He speaks very good English, will call you directly after you email him and also reconfirm the morning of disembarkation. Like you, we weren't sure what time we would be disembarking, and he said "no problem, I will plan to arrive at 8:00 and wait for you until you are able to disembark." There he was, our name on a sign - it worked out perfectly. If you'd like his contact info, my email address is my screen name at aol dot com.

You are going to LOVE Athens and your itinerary (we did this itinerary in reverse on Navigator in 2007) - enjoy!!!

Thanks for the great information! I did worry about just looking for a cab and not knowing how many ships will be there that day, I think we will pre-arrange one. We're excited for Athens!

Ashleymom - my wife and I are on that cruise as well and we already reserved a taxi from the port to our hotel. Do a quick search on this site or on Google for Athens taxis and drivers; there are quite a few that seem to have a great reputation. We're staying in Athens through Sunday the 19th, so we'll probably be out touring again on Saturday.

Are you guys as stoked as we are?? :D

My wife, two teen-aged daughters and I are also on this trip - our plans also were picking up a cab at the dock.

We had considered bringing our two teenage daughters, too, but decided to send them to New Jersey instead. :p

Just my wife and I on this one, Anniversary Cruise!! Woohoo!

I hope those of you on Navigator this month will post your expriences, as we will be Navigator for the August 12 Athens to Istanbul cruise and would very appreciate your feedback on dress code, excursions, food, etc. Good sailing.:)

Have a fantastic cruise, and please post a report when you get back as I am doing a back to back starting on August 7th Monte Carlo through to Istanbul.

This is our first time on Navigator and our first time with Regent, so I am looking forward to hearing all about food, entertainment (my DH is concerned that the entertainment won't be very exciting as it is such a small ship) and importantly for me dress codes :), as I have a 14 year old, and a DH to consider and I am still totally confused about CCC LOL, but will not worry too much about it, as we tend to dress up rather than down on a cruise.

Thanks in advance

Denise

I'll certainly post my impressions and thoughts upon our return. Not sure exactly what I can contribute from a comparative standpoint as this is our first cruise on Navigator, our first cruise on Regent, and, well, our first cruise - period!! LOL!!

I'll be sure to keep an eye on entertainment and dress, as we, too, are somewhat confused - our solution is to pack more than we think we'll need. I'd rather have a bit more clothing than necessary than the other way around.

Any other cruisers on CC who may want to grab a drink or something, drop us a line. Otherwise, we'll see you on board!

Hi Denise...We will be on the first leg of your cruise with our two sons, 13 & 15. Happy to see that there will be other boys their age onboard.

Denise,
The wife and I are on with you from Monte Carlo to Athens. I am wearing golf/polo shirts on country club casual days. If they want me to walk the plank, so be it. If you don't have high expectations about the entertainment, you won't be disappointed. We have done the mariner and it was ok for entertainment. I assume Navigator would be similar.
