Hello everyone! This is my first post to this board and this will also be my first cruise. My FI and I are going on the July 23 Zuiderdam cruise to the E. Caribbean for our HM!!!
I have a question about which deck and cabins are the best in the SS category? We are already booked but we are going to switch our cabin because it is not what we wanted. We are currently booked in SS5002 but from reading this boards I have found out that it was not a good choice:( . I contacted HAL and they told me that the room does not have a tub and that the front is in fact a public verandah (which I read here) . So we have decided to switch and this time we want to make the right choice!
Thanks for your input!!!

Congratulations on your first post!
We've just returned from a week on the OOsterdam. It is a sister ship to the Zuiderdam. We had SS6107 and loved it! It was halfway between the central elevators and the area where the ship bumps out, so we had much privacy on our balcony. It is not possible to see straight down because of the lifeboats, though this didn't bother us a bit. We liked the central location and it was probably had less motion in the heavy seas we hit, due to the midship location. I was concerned about noise in the cabins on Deck 8 being directly below the Lido. I haven't heard of any complaints, just thought Deck 6 would be quieter.
Hope this helps a little.:)

Had a mid ships SS on deck 8 and found it to be quite. Also thought that noise from the Lido deck would be a problem, but it wasn't. Very convenient to walk up one deck for Lido & never had to worry about full elavators when going down....
The SS5001 and 5002 are listed as hancapped cabins. Both are in a terrible location, the most forward on that deck. Even if you require a handicapped suitable cabin, I would look for a different location.
Happy cruising....

Welcome aboard!
As others have said, go for a mid-ship cabin if you can. If not, aft appears to have more fans than forward....

We had SS#6103 and its position was perfect on the ship. It was midship, close to but far enough away from the elevator ---- I thought it was a great location.

We had SS #8059 on the Navigation deck. Loved it so much that we booked the same cabin for September! Reasons we found it to be a delightful location: It is very convenient. One deck below the Lido deck. The Lido deck has the buffet and both pools so we would often just grab a snack from the buffet and bring it back to our cabin to enjoy on the balcony. It is mid-ship so there was very little if any motion. There was no noise from the deck above that we noticed. The mid-ship elevators were steps away. Plus there is just something about being that high up and looking out at the ocean & different ports! Good Luck! Nancy:)

Coincidentally we are also booked on the Zuiderdam 7/23. You will be honeymooning and we are celebrating our twentieth Anniversary.:p We are booked in SS 6064. A little forward mid ship area. Our first SS but we have sailed several times in the S. Thought we would try the SS because we don't really use the Neptune lounge and don't go to the parties etc. The SS is a good compromise and you get a nice size cabin and deck.
We have sailed the Zuiderdam before and loved it. You just can't beat HAL in our opinion. We have sailed 15 cruises with them and have never had a bad time!

The SS's on Navigation Deck are wonderful - no noise from above, fabulous views from the verandah, midships locations and steps away from the Lido...
Just don't get one adjacent to the glass elevators. If you're a heavy packer -check to see that you don't have one that has a door to an adjacent cabin as you'll miss the add'l closet space...
