Sailed on Thomson Spirit several times and every time was just brilliant! Food is varied and delicious, you will enjoy the Compass Rose- excellent service and entertaining, equally good is the Lido- buffet- huge variety and food 24/7! Be prepared to put on weight! Drinks prices are reasonable and no 15% extra charge as on most cruises! We always get the free A1 upgrade- dont know if its worth paying for it but depends on your drinking habits. Staff are wonderful, entertainment first class- quite a variety to suit every taste. I am sure you will enjoy your cruise- I took my 80 year old mother too and she loved it!

Are you going on the Spirit in 2010? I wasn't aware of a 'cruise and stay' option for the 2009 Spirit itineraries as they are sailing out of the UK. (Sailings from the Uk don't offer AI packages.) In 2010 Spirit is based in Corfu doing the Adriatic Explorer and Pearls of the Aegean.
Either that, or if it's 2009 you're sailing, you're on one of the other ships which are in and around the Med. Anyway, whatever, I'm sure you'll have a great time. If you are caring and kind enough to let your mum persuade you to accompany her, then I'm sure you will be sociable enough to find lots of friendly people around. Cruising is a great way to meet people of all ages and walks of life.
Meal times in the main restaurant provide a fantastic opportunity to meet and get talking to other passengers - you wouldn't believe how friendly it is on board. The food is very good and plentiful - I'm sure you won't have any complaints other than the amount of weight you've put on if you are anything like me!
Do a 'Search this forum' for threads on AI - it will give you all shades of opinion about the value or otherwise of AI. Basically, it really all hinges on how much you think you are likely to drink - that's non-alcoholic as well as alcoholic drinks.
Do as you have said, read up a bit on the Forum then get back and I'm sure there will be lots of help if you have more questions. This forum is a great source of advice and information about ports etc.
Look forward to your trip - it's a great way to travel and there will be plenty of company for both you and your Mum.
