Wahooooo. Sat is the big day - first cruise - can't wait - on the Z. I am happily ignoring the recent bad comments and look forward to whatever it brings. We have a balcony cabin in nearly the dead center of the ship so if it gets rocky, hopefully we won't get tossed around as bad.
Taxi question - we fly into Miami Fri nite and will Taxi up to FLL Sat. Where will the taxi drop us and how long of a walk will we have (with all our luggage)? Is there a place we should tell the taxi to take us or just tell them Port Everglades?
Thanks!

You won't have to walk anywhere but into the Terminal. Just tell the taxi driver that you want to go to Port Everglades and the name of the ship. He will, or should know where to go. He will pull right up to the curb at the Terminal, your bags will be taken from you (don't forget to tip the luggage handlers a $1 or $2 per bag) and make sure your luggage tags are filled out and attached. You won't see your luggage again until it's in your room.
Do NOT give them your carry-on bags.
I gather you are going on the Zuiderdam, because the other "Z" ship goes out of Pt. Canaveral.
Have fun! :D

Put your luggage tags on when you are ready to leave the hotel. No sense in putting them while flying - they could accidently get ripped off and be missing when you retrieve your luggage at the airport.
Have your cruise documents handy along with passports or some kind of photo ID. You will need to show them at the security checkport before you actually enter into the Port Everglades pier area.

Taxi from Miami to the pier is quite a taxi ride. Driver can drop you right in front of the door. In fact, I think I remember that the area is partially covered as well.
Several ships will be docked close by so be sure he gets you to the correct boarding area for the Zuiderdam and not one of the other boarding areas.

The taxi will take you to your ship at Port Everglades. You will not have to haul you luggage anywhere. There will be porters to handle your luggage.
I don't know the cost of a taxi but there are lots of limo services that will take you from Miami to Port Everglades. The cost may be around the same. I believe there are a couple of people on this board that have done this.
I would like to make another suggestion. You could rent a car. There is no drop off charges in Florida. You did not say what time you were coming in Friday night, but you would have the car to go eat dinner and breakfast. The car rentals located at the Ft. Lauderdale airport will take you to your ship.
Bon Voyage

Wow! Thanks for the quick replies. We're are the Zuiderdam and it definitely goes out of Port Everglades. We get in at 10:00 Friday night so that's why I didn't do the rental. We have one with National on the 27th since the flight back doesn't leave Miami until 8:20 pm. I was going to do the limo, but I wanted flexibility to leave Miami when we wanted. If we can get one Sat morning, we will. I think a Taxi is around $60 similar to a "limo". We would have flow into FLL, but I couldn't make it work with FF miles even back in late August so I'll gladly exchange taxi fare for free FC air tickets. I like the idea of having the car for the day in Miami so I don't count the car rental as an "extra" expense. Don't you just love my accounting methods?

Yes, they are similiar to my wife's.
Sorry you will miss breakfast at South Beach, unless your hotel is there, but I am sure you will have a great vacation.

That will be an expensive taxi ride.... Miami to Port Everglades is a little over 25 miles...
Good luck, they should be able to get you right to the entrance where you check into your cruise.
