We were on Westerdam last year, had a great time, stayed in a regular verandah cabin -- myself, DW, and DD (then 3, now 4 years old).

We are booked on Zuiderdam this year, and looking at an SY, which we realize will give us more room. But it looks like the SY's don't have the "divider curtain" that separates the pull-out couch from the bed, which worked so well for us last year -- by pulling that curtain, we could tuck our daughter in, let her fall asleep, and we could still keep the lights on by the bed to read at night (rather than turning in at 9pm, when she did).

Anyone have any advice -- SY vs. verandah -- based on this?

In other words, the issue is more about our daughter being able to get to sleep, as opposed to the price difference between the SY and verandah cabins.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

There is no divider curtain in the SY, and I don't cruise with children, so I can't give any advice. I would book the SY for the bigger cabin and the double sink bathroom with jacuzzi tub/shower AND separate shower.

Zuiderdam is our favorite ship, and I know you'll have a great time!

Funny I never even noticed the divider curtain on Westerdam. I just went back to our 2004 pics and there it is. We were just on Westerdam in an SY with the grandkids. The little ones in the portacribs we put in the entries. We had three cabins. There was a curtain there. The four year old just slept on the sofa bed and there was no curtain. he survived OK but then they had our room to com eto if kids were in bed before parents wanted to go to bed. Or they could go out and we could listen for the kids. The extra space is nice but I think if it is just you traveling, I would go for the room with the curtain.

We loved the SY room we were in. I would say go for it, just for the increase in space. Your daughter should have no problem falling asleep. The reading lights at the head of the bed are far enough away and not bright enough to keep her awake. Once she is asleep, she won't know if the lights are on. ;)

You will like the double sinks in the bathroom and the separate shower stall in addition to the jacuzzi tub. Not to mention the large balcony! :)

Enjoy your cruise!
