Does anyone have a floorplan or picture of the funky SY suites on the Vista class ships (the one with the zigzag balcony)?

Here are some photos of SY5108 (Zuiderdam) HC cabin that Ships Services sent me (no balcony pix).

Actually, it's SY6108 on Zuiderdam (5108 is a VE.) It's a HCP accessible cabin, and looks like the desk has been moved or removed to make more room for a wheelchair. You'll have lots of room, but the extra shower is a walk-in, and you give up the double sink for a single. The balcony is partly angled to give you a GREAT view along the port side.
See if you can grab 6117... it's a much better cabin.

We've booked an SZ guarantee. We've had good luck with guarantee status in the past, but I was nervous about the SY, not needing the accommodation for disabilities. I have a relaxed attitude about it though. We will see what comes. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I would be thrilled with 6117.
Our agent states that they try to hold the HC cabins until the end and they usually assign the guarantees earlier than this. Was he just blowing smoke to get me to upgrade or does that sound reasonable?

They hold the HCs until about 10 days out, then release them to the remaining GTYs.

Yes, we got the impression we would get our assignment before this. We have done the guarantee thing about 4 times and only once did we not get an assignment 3 to 4 weeks ahead. That time we got our assignment on arrival and that was a pretty significant upgrade. It wouldn't be too bad to get the SY, just not my preference.

Of course, if I really wanted my preference, I should have paid for it!

Can you tell us why this one is better? Thanks.

All these cabins are Superior Suites having similar square footage, double-sinks, jacuzzi tub/shower and separate shower, bonus room near the veranda door, with exceptions:
SZ6117 is aft of midships
SZ6052 is forward of midships (more ocean motion)
SY6108 is aft of midships, HCP accessible, one sink, commode in walk-in shower
Every time I book a cruise I request 6117, and it's usually 'unavailable', so I go up to SS8099 (I love the extra real estate and the forward view). I think they use the 2 SZs for GTY bookings, but you can try.

Hi Candy,
Just booked Zuiderdam cabin SS8099 to which you refer as your favorite for an Alaska 2010 cruise. It looks great and my TA has clients who swear by it.
My one question - is there any noise from the Lido deck above? I believe it's the restaurant which I'd think would be quiet with carpeting - compared to more forward cabins which must deal with deck chairs around the pool.
As a very light sleeper - and an unsuspecting victim of Lido deck chair dragging throughout a very expensive holiday cruise (different cruise line) a few years back... I'm concerned. From what I've read it seems perhaps I shouldn't be with this cabin... but since you've enjoyed it so many times - you'd be the right person to answer the question once and for all.
Thanks
Jim

8099 is under a remote corner of the Lido Restaurant which is one of the last places chosen, so only busy during peak times. If there is any noise at all, it won't be anywhere near what you'd hear being under the deck chairs! FWIW, I've never had a noisy cabin on Zuidy.

I know Eurodam is not a "Vista", but I understand the staterooms are basically the same except for decor. We were in 6113, which is one of those zig-zag staterooms. Here are a few pics. Please let me know if there is anything else you would like to know.

Awesome! Thanks for the favorable review from first-hand experience. I think we're quite lucky to have been able to select this cabin in advance.

Thank you, we are on a DTY as well, as I told my TA, we are more than happy not to have the upgrade fairy pay us a visit, unless she is bringing a PS off course.
On the handicap room, yes they will assign them further out, we actually went around with HAL over this as we were assigned a handicap room (we are not and it just isn't right to take one from people that may need it) we asked to be moved and they put us in another handicap room...SO we moved up to a suite :D

JetWet1 Thank you for you consideration in not taking the accessible cabins when you did not need them. Believe me when I tell you that accessible cabins are few and we usually book months in advance to get one with a balcony. I only wish that some unscrupulous TAs and some passengers would use as much restraint. If the accessible cabins are not booked usually after final payment, they are then ( and should be) released to the general public. Since we travel with both scooter and wheelchair - above the knee amputation - we cannot cruise without having an accessible cabin.:)

Thanks for the pics. Is it me, or does the balcony look narrower on this crooked cabin?

Oh I don't know...the balcony was a nice size. It wasn't any narrower...it did match up to its counterparts on each side. It may seem a little narrower where it is angled, but there was plenty of room for us. The really nice part of this balcony is that you can stand on the angle and see the whole way forward on the ship without having to lean out like you normally do.
