We're cruising on the Noordam leaving from Rome on August 27. We are hoping to find someone interested in sharing a shuttle from Civitavecchia to the Rome airport (FCO) when we return on September 6. We're spending the night prior to embarkation in Rome & are planning to take the train to the port (we understand it's fairly simple to do this), but coming home, we would like to avoid the schlep & train change at Termini. Most of the services charge around E120 & HAL wants $168 for 2, each way. It would be great to share.
Please let us know if you're interested.

Did you check to see if there is a Roll Call thread about this cruise? If there is maybe this would get a better response over in that forum. Have a wonderful cruise.

Hi,
My husband and I would be interested in sharing a return to the airport on September 6th. Have you looked into any shuttles or services that will do this?

Rome Cab is very reasonable and I have shared before. Asweet way to save money and reduce hassle.

We would be very interested in sharing a ride to FCO. There are three of us. Here is my email address: Debmin2003@aol.com.
Thanks,

Try Stefano at Rome Cabs! He is now our friend. He is the best for a private transfer and you can even add a stop off excursion along the way depending on your time of arrival/departure.

Thus far I have discovered 4 companies offering the service. Prices vary depending upon the # of passengers:
Limoservice Rome offers E130 for car, E160 for Monovolume (up to 5 psgrs), E170 for minivan (up to 9 psgrs).
Bob's limo offers the service but it's more pricey
Airportshuttle.it offers E100 for car, E120 for 3-4 psgrs & E160 for up to 8 psgrs
Rome Cabs (I don't know how to connect with Stefano) offers E130 for car, E150 up to 4 psgrs, E170 up to 6 & E200 up to 8.
The most important thing is to first determine how many are interested & then going with a reputable company.
Does anyone have any experience (good or bad) with these companies?
Thanks,
Bob

We have never taken a cab/shuttle to the port in Rome. My husband did a search and came up with a recommendation from Rick Steves: AirPortShuttle which is one of the ones Bob mentioned in a previous message. I pasted below from their website. It believe it requires giving them a credit card. So, how should we handle that? How many would we be and what time do your planes depart which would determine what time we would be picked up. Our flight departs at 2:00 p.m. Our email address is booksmiths@yahoo.com Also, is anyone on cruise starting on August 17th as we are? We arrive in Rome at 12:30 and would love to share a ride to the port that direction as well. Linda

Look into romeinlimo also. They are very popular on this board and also friends of RomeCabs. They are a great company. I have used them for 3 different Med cruises. Our Roll Call had them all booked up for May.

I looked that up - it is E190 for a minivan. I guess the higher price might reflect a smaller vehicle.
Any thoughts? Perhaps we should contact a couple of them to see if they have availabilty.

Linda, contact Jany at romeinlimo.com (their email address is on the site) and talk with her about availability and prices. They also offer discounts if you do any other touring with them. We had all our touring booked with them, so all of our transfers (both to and from the ship) were less money than most other transfers and the service was outstanding. You can read through our entire roll call and see that there was never a time they were late. Multiple transfers count towards your discounts also, not just tours.
Have a great time! This is the best area of cruising in my opinion :)

We are using Stefano to pick us up from the airport on our arrival.
Most of the companies mentioned seem to be good. We also used
romeinlimo on a previous med. cruise and they were great. I guess we should make a list of how many passengers are interested in sharing a ride. Also, some of us may have early flights and others later flights. Our flight doesn't leave until 2:30 pm.

Airportshuttle.com appears to be the least expensive @ E160 for up to 8 passengers. It appears they still have availability. So, we need to determine what time we would like to schedule the pick-up (9am or later if we think there will be a delay getting luggage). Also, if someone feels strongly about using another service (Stefano), the price is comparable, & they have availability, we don't have a problem. If Debbie can check with Stefano to see if he can accommodate 7 passengers that would be great. Otherwise, we can book with Airportshuttle.com.
From reviewing the posts:
Debmin2003@aol.com.- 3 passengers - 2:30 flight (Debbie/Kip/Amber)
booksmiths@yahoo.com - 2 passengers - 2:00 flight (Linda/ )
drbobl@aol.com - 2 passengers - 2:00 flight (Bob/Paula)
so, our departures appear to coincide.
We're embarking on 27 August so we really can't help Linda sharing a ride to the port on the 17th. We're overnighting in Rome on the 26th & taking the train to the port (E4.50 pp).
Thanks,
Bob

Hi Debbie and Bob,
Either group is fine with us. I'm pretty sure I saw on the Airport Shuttle website that they allow at no extra charge 2 free bags pp. So, could you find out what additional charges there are for more bags and, most importantly, how many bags do they have room for? Since we are going for 20 days (yikes!) we will probably have 3 full size bags plus 2 carry-ons.
My husband Bob thought that a 10:00 am shuttle would give us more than enough time with our departures being so close together. Does that make sense?
Debbie - how did you connect with Stefano and what is he charging you to get to the port?

Hi Bob and Linda,
According to Stefano's website they charge 170E for up to eight people.
It doesn't matter to us which company we use. Stefano is charging us 50E from FCO to our hotel in Rome. It gets very expensive when you only have three people. Linda, we can't help you as we are flying in on the 22nd. We are going with another couple on the cruise from Rome to the shipas they found a private driver, can't remember the name. Let us know what you decide and then we can exchange cabin information. Thanks.

Hi,
Since Stefano's rates are comparable (within E10) & everyone recommends him, we're in. I will have a large suitcase & a briefcase that I can hold on my lap if necessary. Paula will have a large suitcase & a carry on roller bag.
If Linda concurs, would Debbie please confirm with him.
Thanks,
Bob

Hi Bob and Debbie,
I did email Debbie to confirm but thought I would do so here as well. We will have 3 suitcases between us plus 2 carry-ons. I wish I could pack more lightly! But we are going for 20 days and the ship has no laundry! I hate to pay big bucks to launder clothes...
I haven't checked yet today to see if we have a cabin assignment yet - we didn't the other day.

Hi Linda and Bob,
Stefano got back to me today. His rate is not the same as on his website. He quoted me 190 euros for the trip. That is 30 euros more than the quote that Bob received. If they are both reputable then maybe we should go with Bob's quote. Let me know what you guys think.

Airportshuttle.it still has availability for 7 passengers at a rate of E165. That's 25 less then Stefano, but they require full prepayment upfront. I don't mind fronting the cash but I'm a bit leery about doing so with a company nobody has worked with in the past.
What are your thoughts?

Bob,
I am not comfortable with anyone paying anything upfront when you do not have to. I will book with:) Stefano for the seven of us. I will send you the confirmation. We are in cabin number 1073. Thanks.

Hi Deb and Bob,
I've been out of town with no internet access this weekend. Stefano is fine. It is a bit unprofessional not to have accurate prices on the internet, however.
We received our room assignment - VA7136. It was an upgrade. It is one of the rooms on the rear/aft of the ship. Are there any issues with being there?

We are arriving at Citavechia on Rotterdam at the end of October and are trying to get our heads around this one. How do they do disembarkation. The port entrance is usually a long way from the ship. Does the luggage go to the entrance for you to pick it up? Do you then travel on the port shuttlebus. I am assuming taxis and coaches cannot get right to the ship. Am I right. If this is the case is there a problem timing getting off and having an arranged taxi.

Hi Deb & Linda,
We're 'on board' with Stefano. Deb, thanks for taking care of the booking. Linda, our cabin is aft as well. In fact, we prefer that.

Hi Bob and Deb,
Great to hear that aft is desirable! Do you start your cruise on the 17th as we do (OMG a few days from now) or do you begin on the 27th?
Thanks to Deb for handling everything too!

I am assuming taxis and coaches cannot get right to the ship. Am I right. If this is the case is there a problem timing getting off and having an arranged taxi.At Civitivecchia we had to walk (and pull our bags) about 50 yards from the baggage claim area to our bus. I don't remember about taxis and limos, but I presume they can also get close to the ship.

Linda & Debbie,
Unfortunately, we needed to cancel our cruise. 7 weeks ago, my wife broke her foot. They had her in a soft (walking) cast & she was expecting to have it removed this past week. However, when she saw the doctor & he reviewed the latest x-ray, the bone did not heal properly. So, she is going to require surgery & is in a hard cast up to her knee. She is advised not to fly due to the risk of a blood clot.
You have no idea how difficult this is for us (thank heavens for trip insurance). I wanted to let you know that if you cannot find another couple to join you on the return transfer, please let us know & we will pay our share (it's only fair since I initiated this whole thing).
Hopefully you receive this in time.
Once again, I'm very sorry we needed to cancel. I hope you enjoy the cruise & have great weather. Be safe.
Bob
