Do you get to keep the trees after the cruise?

ArubaLisa-
I think with the volume of posts, it's easy to get lost in the shuffle. I for one really appreciated your post as we'll be sailing during Chanukah and HAL even offers a couple of gifts appropriate for the holiday also! I was able to call and order them via ship services, who, as awlays, was totally helpful!
Thanks for the posting!
P.S, A question for you: we are going to be in aruba for one sunday afternoon (HAL changed the schedule) I am an avid snorkeler and this itinerary only offers 3 possible snorkel days....should I do the shopping thing in Aruba or is the snorkeling not to be missed????? Thanks in advance

As mentioned in a previous post, these two figures at HAL are VP and supervisor level so I don't believe that they would be personally responding. You'll want to contact ship services as they field direct consumer and agency questions . . . E-mails to anyone "higher up" will probably just float back down to this department.

For sure anything you are able to purchase in Aruba you are able to purchase in St. Martin or St. Thomas. My FIL, dragged us from store to store in June is search of a new Olympus Digital camera. DH kept telling him that he could purchase it cheaper on the internet. Just for the heck of it, DH took his Dad over to the local Internet Cafe and sure enough, the cameras they were being shown in the stores in Aruba were no great bargain.
There is a very interesting thread on the Aruba Board regarding Shopping for Watches (http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=81529)
If the price is right for your budget I would choose a snorkel trip with

Thanks soooo much for the info about the Xmas tree. My wife's going to freak out when she sees it in our cabin. I wonder why HAL didn't advise me of the availibility of the tree when they sent me the documents? Oh well, you did and that's what's important. Thanks again and happy holidays!!

I was told by HAL ship services that the holiday gift list was only available during holiday sailings - what a bummer! We can't even order a little tree because we sail the week BEFORE Christmas!:(

It`s so easy to pick up a 12-18 inch folding tree at the dollar type store. I`ve done this in the past and they never cost more than $2-3, some of them are decorated too. if not, buy a $1 package of balls. I leave this after the cruise, don`t have room to haul it back home and as it was so cheap who cares. It`s small, but gives enough cheer to remind us it is Christmas. If you have a larger one, there is no where to stand it.....jean

Years ago when we did our first Christmas sailing, we bought a 3 ft folding tree and packed it into our suitcase along with unbreakable ornaments. The lights I packed in that plastic bubble stuff. The first time we set it up on the table in our cabin, the cabin steward nearly dumped our breakfast when he saw the tree. Whenever we left the cabin we turned off the lights. One time when we were passing by our cabin we saw the cabin steward working on our room and he had turned on the tree lights while he was working. We used everything on a few cruises. I still have all that stuff just in case we ever decide to take another Christmas cruise.

Snorkel in Aruba if you can! The only better place we've snorkeled is at St. John, Virgin Islands!!!
