Hello,

Can anybody please explain what the Lower Dining area "Opera Seating" is? We chose the 6:15 dining time which happens to be in the lower dining room, please let us know about your experiences dining on this ship and in the lower dining room, and whether you found the temperature to be too warm or not. Thank you.

Temperature was OK, a lttle cool sometimes but I get chilled easy in a dress without sleeves. We were in table 175, lower Vista dining room at 6:15. Vibrations of the ship were quite noticeable so conversation was a bit difficult. Waitstaff.."Mr. P" and "Gede" were really nothing to write home about, friendly but not very attentive. Not as personable as I have found in the past, brought the wrong thing a few times but returned it without a problem. Jerry the wine steward was very nice. Head waiter stopped by on the first formal night and last night.
About Opera seating...I don't know what that is about, there is a tier in the lower area, and we were on the bottom of that.

I've never heard of "opera style seating". Are you sure it's not "open seating"? I know that the four dining times are split between the levels by times but I've never heard of "opera style seating".

I also believe that lyndamr may have misread and took open seating for opera seating.

I have never heard that expression used on a HAL ship.

I cannot recall ever hearing of 'open seating' on HAL for dinner. Breakfast and lunch have open seating. But dinner???

Have no clue what Opera Seating could be.....but I seriously doubt she would have been assigned to a 6:15 Open Seating.

As we often say here, IMO the best thing to do would be for her to call Ships Services and inquire.

Thank you all, I read the other post again and it does state "opera seating" and I read it correctly, unless that person meant to type open, but there would not be an open seating for dinner in the main dining room.

I could call HAL and ask them but I am pretty sure they don't want to waste their time in discussing dining room questions and most likely they are only reservationists and would not have an answer to my question, perhaps they can refer me to another department to answer my questions? I will wait for a few more posts and see if that other person who originally wrote "opera seating" gets back with me on their experience, then I will call the cruise line. If I find anything out I sure will let you know. Thank you!

From what I know 'opera seating' is when there is a center section and then seating around that. This is the way the lower level is set up, no? The center section is preferred, where the people are seen by all around. Like in an opera house- orchestra section and boxes surrounding.

I know there was another thread recently that mentioned 'opera seating' in the dining room, but don't have time to look for it now.

You get me thinking about this "opera" seating.

On port side on the upper level, those by the railing, front part and rear part of the dining a couple steps lower than the tables by the windows and wall.

I can't remember how the tables were on starboard side.

I'm surprise no one's heard of opera seating. With opera seating no one is allowed to eat until the fat lady sings.:D
