Is now three bucks. And it is purely awful! It's disgusting. How anyone can think that stuff passes for wine must be missing a screw.
It was being served at my book club and I said, "ick, I'll take a beer, thanks".:)

No Trader Joe's in our area.

All alcohol and wine has to be purchased through a State Liquor Store.

I see "Moose Jaw Medium Sticky" and "Tojour La Smooch" aren't on the list. We must be drinking elite wines! Of course these days we're also drinking them out of "stemless" wine glasses . . . we used to refer to them as "tumblers".:D

Smooth Sailing! :):):)

Guess it's time for a quick trip across the border for the "good stuff." Has anyone ever tried "Fat Bastard" or "Cat's Pee on a Gooseberry Bush." I brought a bottle of the Cat's Pee to my friend in Minniapolis last November. It's a Sauvignon Blanc and not too bad. She loved the bottle which now sits on a shelf in her kitchen.

Charles Shaw (aka Two Buck Chuck) can be truly awful or great. It has actually won blind tasting awards. Problem is you never know what you are going to get as there is no consistency in the fruit they are using. Monday's batch may be great and from a very good vineyard, while Wednesday's might not be such. That is why I avoid it. If cost is a factor you can get a decent chardonnay like Meridian for about $5.50 and it is consistently good.

We bought Fat Bastard for 3 reasons: the name; a couple of free wine chillers; a free t-shirt. The wine wasn't bad, the chillers work well, and the t-shirt certainly gets some interesting looks when DH wears it!

We used to bring a sour apple liquer to a friend of ours (can't remember the name of it) when we went ice-fishing. He jokingly referred to it as "lizard pi**", so every time we went to visit him we brought another bottle.:D

The cheapest wine we ever bought was in a grocery store in Montana - $0.89 for a 750 ml bottle - and no, it was not cooking wine. We paid about $0.79 too much.

Smooth Sailing! :):):)

Staying in an upscale hotel in San Francisco, Fisherman's Wharf area, we were told of their 5 PM wine/beer canape hour in the lobby. Well, lo and behold, their red wine of choice was Charles Shaw Merlot. Had to try it and it was actually delightful. All who shared, said the same thing. Surprises abound when you give it a chance. :):)

That 2 buck chuck is icky wine. Ok, let's talk about FAT Bastard! Reminds me of my brother. He is neither fat nor a bastard but he drinks it. Makes me laugh. He buys it because of the label I swear. What else? It's not very good wine, it just has a clever label. Marketing. Sheesh. I won't buy it however. Oh, by the way, my brother is indeed a fat bastard!!!!:)

Sounds like a great bottle to show off, esp. since we have a cat.:D I'll buy a bottle if I ever see one.
Worst wine! One time in France, we didn't go anywhere so we just got off the ship and viewed what the vendors on the dock had for sale. Mostly the usual junk, but we bought two bottles of French Wine. Later in the day we tried a bottle and immediately poured the rest down the drain.:( I put the other near the trash, and when I saw the room steward, told him our opion and the bottle was his; drink, barter for something or put in the trash, just get it out of the room. I did not count it as part of the tip.
Least expensive; We used to live a few miles from a small wine producer. I never saw the man drunk or sober, just happy. He produced a good Zin, very dark and strong, that required a good spaghetti sauce or steak to not be overpowered. $2.00/gal., or if you brought the jug back, $1.00 for another!:D:D Even then it was a good buy for a dinner wine. He also made an excellent dessert wine that cost a lot more.
