I'm just wondering what to expect when we have a day or so at sea? What is the dress? Is there organized activities? We have two boys ages 8 & 10...I also enjoy running and playing tennis. Is there a practice court or a running track?
I'm also looking forward to a cold refreshment, a lounge chair and diving in to a new novel.
Can I dress in yoga pants and a cute top? What is appropriate?
Thanks for helping! ...five more sleeps!:)

You can wear whatever you want during the day. At night it is recommended that you follow the dress code if you are going to dine in the dining room. Your yoga pants and cute top would be o.k. during the day, and o.k. if you are going to dine in the Lido buffet.
Yes, there are many activities on board during the "at sea" days...they will be listed in your daily program. Your boys will probably participate in the youth program activities.
Yes, you can enjoy your cold refreshment, a lounge chair and reading, if the weather permits. If it is chilly, there are blankets for you to use.
Enjoy your cruise.

Yes, there is a running track. there are organized activities, dress is casual, you do whatever you want from active activities to sitting and doing nothing. we love sea days because you can do as much or as little as you want.
We have taken dance lessons, wine appreciation events, cooking classes, read a book, did absolutley nothing but nap, took pictues, etc.
enjoy the day !

I submit that if anyone is only interested in the ports, why not fly there? Why bother to take a ship?
For myself and many others, the joy of sailing is the voyage, not the destination. The sea days are absolutely delightful and there are more activities planned and organized than would be humanly possible for anyone to participate in them all. There truly is something for everyone, from intellectual pursuits like lectures, to quiet time lounging or reading, to afternoon tea, to games and contests, to eating (like we all need more of that), to spa treatments, to crafting and artistic activities, to movies (with popcorn), to ice cream all afternoon, and to new friends and just plain people watching and ocean views....ahhhhhh!
I hope you and the kids have a GREAT cruise. I believe you will be pleasantly surprised. Please be sure to check back here when you return and give us a report, OK?

Welcome to Cruise Critic.
There are lots of activities.
Your children might want to join Club HAL as well.
You will see a lot of people wearing bathing suites and hanging out by the pools. Just bring a cover-up if you want to go inside for lunch, etc.

Agreed, sea days are the best part of the cruise experience IMHO. Love strolling the promenade, relaxing, just sitting and watching the beautiful panarama of the sea.

Sea days are my favorite. A good book, a nice walk, my music on my ipod, and watching the wake. What could be better?

My favorite itineraries include a lot sea days. Sometimes I like participating in the team games like Trivia or the games for earning "dam dollars". These can be traded for HAL souvenir items. The cooking demos are interesting. Usually movies are shown in one of the lounges. Reading a book while lounging in a chair near the bow of the ship (I like the sound of the waves) on the promenade deck is delightful.
Have a wonderful cruise.

The ship has lots of activities planned for sea days. However, it's great doing absolutely nothing at all.

On our last cruise we met with the Cruise Consultant requested a list of HAL's cruises with the highest per centage of sea days to port days, and she said she was unable to help us. Any tips or suggestions for searching for these?

Sea days are the best days for us. The cool ocean breeze, the scent of salt in the air. Perhaps the sounds of steel drums wafting down from the deck above.
Sitting in the CN watching the world go by. Standing on the promenade deck listening to the music of the waves and perhaps catching a glimpse of a silvered fin.
As we watch from the bow waves make our silent goodbyes to the water we just slid through. Amazing sunrises, triple rainbows, green flashes at sunset.
Those lovely, lazy sea days. Ahhhh.

I just talked to my husband about the replies I've received and he is very excited about our days at sea. I'm thinking that the days at sea may be our favourite as well.
He like to sit and read...I may ROCK THE BOAT Jay!

I like sitting in the mornings in the Crows Nest on those comfy chairs and watching the ocean ahead for any sign of life. I look at the daily program the night before and mark my day with a marker. I do triva, tea, movies, cooking classes, puzzles, reading...... BUT I think two sea days together are my limit. For cruises with sea days try transatlantic positioning cruises in the spring and fall. You will get your fill guaranteed!!!:p
