I'm sailing on the Maasdam in December and am in a suite. I was wondering what refreshments are available in the Neptune Lounge. Do they provide any sodas there, or just ice tea and lemonade? I'm not a coffee drinker, but I do love my ice tea. And are there any snacks or other food there?

You will find al sorts of goodies in the Neptune lounge, Morning breakfast, early afternoon snacks, canapes later. Did not see sodas on the last two cruises, iced tea, orange juice and coffe. Are you in a deluxe suite? on the same deck as the Neptune as these suites are the only one,s that have access to the lounge on our crusises.

Yes, I decided to go whole hog this time. I'm in a suite one room away from the lounge. Didn't want to be right across from it.

The Neptune Lounge opens on sea days at 7:30 AM and port days at 7 AM (we have been on some ships where the Neptune Lounge opened everyday at 7 AM).

Continental breakfast is available until around 11 AM -- coffee, tea, orange juice, ice water and cranberry juice -- rolls, pastries, cold meets and cheeses, fruits, cereals, yogurt -- some ships have even added a toaster where you can toast your own bagels, bread and English muffins.

You are also able to have breakfast free in the Pinnacle -- the times and menus are the same as the main dining room.

At around 11 AM snacks -- 3 kinds of tea sandwiches, cookies, candies are available in the Neptune Lounge -- iced tea now becomes availble.

Arounf 1 PM different tea sandwiches are avaulable. Sometimes the pound cake becomes available at this time on some ships -- on others it becomes available at 3 when the afternoon tea sandwiches are put out.

At 5 PM cold appetizers are available until the Neptune Lounges closes around 8:15 - 8:30 -- again it depends on the ship.

For tender ports -- all you need to do is go down to the gangway and show your room ID card. If there is a line -- you just get in at the end of it.

There are no sodas available in the Neptune Lounge -- never has been. You can either use the ones in your mini refrigerator -- which you pay for and they will be replaced daily. Or you can buy soda at any bar.

Sometimes the Concierge will have sodas stashed away in the cuboard, but you have to buy them from her. The beautiful and charming Regina used to always have a Diet Coke for me when I came in the afternoon. The Concierges are wonderful people.

I am not sure about the Massedam, but on the Eurodam, there are several deluxe suites that are not on the same deck as the Neptune but these also have Neptune access.

Same with the Oosterdam and the Westerdam. We have been in SC or SB suites not on the same deck as the Lounge but we had access. Truthfully, we have tried it and don't see the appeal. We have another cruise booked for Dec in a deluxe suite and probably won't bother to go in the Lounge at all.

We love the Neptune and use it often on cruises -BUT not for the food and drink so much -its simply "a place" like a livingroom to chat and make friends in a congenial place! There is another thread on this board about "most interesting person" you've met on cruises -and the Neptune was a place I met a beautiful woman from Idaho who was cruising with her second husband and SHE was one of the most interesting people; she had been a young nurse in LONDON and had given birth to her daughter in a bombshelter in 1943.......and she had other interesting stories to tell about her VERY interesting life.
The Concierges are [usually] from the Philipines and every one we've met were extra special in their "friendship" with us -making the cruise extra-special.
The service people there are from the Pinnacle Dining room and we've made lots of friends with these dear people from Indonesia - Rocky & Merdy come to mind quickly -but there were many more and it makes me smile to think of these friends.
The food is yummy and served often from a refrigerated "dome"......so its lovely & fresh[safe] ......and the others forgot the wonderful chocolates and vanilla chocolates you can SNEAK any time in the afternoon.
The "Grand" cruises are longer cruises -and on the last Asia/Pacific last autumn, Julie & Craig -friends of ours from Minnesota- had the GREAT idea of a "Pot-luck" the last afternoon. Everybody was to bring their half-finished wine or booze and Rocky brought down several huge pizza's from the Lido pool area......that was one of our own BETTER parties as people sat around telling jokes and just visiting -and the MOST excited person at that party was Rocky!
Its just a splendid PLACE.....:)

I like the Neptune Lounge but I do wish it were possible to get a glass of wine or a cocktail in there.

Comparing it to the Concierge Lounge on RCI it does not come anywhere close IMHO. On RCI in the evenings we can get a complimentary drink. This seems far more civilized.

Some more hot tips about the NL; you'll find the white leather-covered Pinnacle Grill menus in there, as well as daily menus for the dining room. Plus the coffee machine is pretty good; capucinno's, late's, espresso's, etc. The TV is always on (set to CNN:cool:), it has a pretty good selection of books (not as big as the library) and it's a great place to plug in your laptop power cord and work on your "Live from" reports.

You'll also find HAL brochures so you can leaf through one while sipping your coffee and decide which will be your next cruise. :D

You can also meet with FCC in Neptune Lounge. They always schedule at least one day/time to meet with them there.

All Category "S" and "PS" Cabins on Maasdam are on Navigation Deck as is the Neptune Lounge.

For all the "S" and "R" Class ships, that category is only on Navigation Deck though that is not the case for Vista and Signature Class.

Nor is it that way on the Prinsendam. There are several lovely suites which are on a different deck from the Neptune Lounge on that ship.

I especially enjoyed the Neptune because my husband is a late sleeper and I'm an early riser. It was almost like an extension of our cabin - I put on something appropriate and went there to have my coffee and do some reading/socializing while my husband was sleeping in. A very nice perk for the Deluxe Suite guests.

And the option of having daily delivery of tea (which comes with not
only tea but more sandwiches/sweets than 2 people can comfortably
consume) or hot or cold hors d'oeuvres (again, so plentiful we had
to reduce our daily order to food for one since the two of us were
stuffed and then had dinner to go to only 2 hours later). The lounge
maps and books and reference texts and magazines are also something
we enjoy, especially the variety of atlas-type books. Have a wonderful time!!

Do they serve any drinks at all?

They do not serve alcoholic drinks in the Neptune Lounge.

Just the ones I listed are free.

However -- we have seen a couple of people bring their own champagne and drinks into the lounge.

The only time alcohol is served in the Neptune Lounge is when the captain & hotel manager host a reception there. Otherwise, the offerings are milk in the mornings, juices (orange, cranberry, etc.) water, coffee (espresso, latte, etc), teas, hot chocolate ...
