It must be about time, that the Officers, and Senior Staff of the Epic, get their contracts. Has anyone heard from any of these folks, that they keep in touch with, that they have been selected. Please no rumors, just fact.

Exactly since no one has in fact been given a contract for the Epic. That should not happen until next year. Lots or rumors even for those that believe they will be onboard.

LOL....now that is funny.

I do not know how NCL does it, But when I was on the Carnival Splendor, Many of the folks who were on her from the launch were scheduled to transfer to the Dream when it comes out.

Does NCL have selected crew that goes from new ship to new ship?

Usually the pull the top 10% from each ship and fill in with some new crew members. They should have a good pool of new crew members with experienced members of the Majesty that leaves the fleet this fall.

We were on the Jewel's first "real" voyage, a transatlantic cruise, and when we asked how the crew was chosen we were told that the best 10% from each ship were offered positions on the new vessel. However, I do recall (except I don't recall his name) that NCL had one particular hotel director who was usually chosen to work on the new ships. I think he no longer works on the ships and is now one of the suits at NCL headquarters.

That was Klaus. They haven't 100% decided on anyone for the ship yet so will be a few more months to wait.

I had heard that Karan Arora and Alex Forbes were to be the Concierge team. But, With Alex's status up in the air, who knows.

But like me, PE "heard" that directly from Karan in email, so not exactly a grapevine thing...... but certainly could change between now and then. Most things are subject to change, aren't they?

Most crew members won't be firmed up until next year. Right now they are getting peoples vacations and contracts into alignment for transferring to the Epic. Can't have someone sign onto a new ship only to go off on vacation after 3 weeks or so.

Some crew members need to be on-board during the fitting out stage, some don't need to be there until sea trials and some not until just before the first passengers board. They are already looking at staff members to locate there, all depends on what your position is and were you work on board ship.

So we were on the same cruise. Unlike the Pearl not really the first real cruise with a few Med cruises prior.

But- when the captain on Jade shows his wonderful slides of Jade ("My beautiful ship"), he seemed to be in on it from the laying of the keel. Was he appointed first, or did several captains attend- and hoped it would be theirs? Perhaps the new person for Epic is lurking in one of the keel shots.-jocap.

Now who at NCL compares to the great guy I met on RCCL named Ken Rush. The guy lives o each newly built ship as the ship is built, he makes sure everything is perfect, he hires the crew, the entertainment, etc for each new ship, yet he is just a CD. I have met great people on Dawn, Jewel & Pearl. Even a great lady (oriental) who was on each of the ships when I was. She travels when they need her services as a receptionist, a hostess or a dancer.

So who will be CD on Epic, who is overlooking as she is built & puts together everyone to work together to give the greatest experience to everyone who is a guest. Let me guess - Jamie!

Oct 15, 2009 - Norwegian Introduces Norwegian Epic’s Captains and Hotel Directors Unveils Inaugural Sailing Dates in Europe and U.S.

http://www.epic.ncl.com/resources/images/crew-photos.jpg
The 4,200 passenger Norwegian Epic will enter service next June under the command of Captain Trygve Vorren, a 29-year seafaring veteran who is currently captain of Norwegian Jade, and Captain Hakan Svedung, at sea for 35 years and currently captain of Norwegian Dawn. Vorren, a native of Norway, joined Norwegian in 1980 as first officer on the SS Norway, then the world’s largest cruise ship. He has also served aboard Skyward, Southward, Sunward II, Dreamward, Leeward, Starward, Royal Odyssey, Norwegian Sea, Norwegian Crown, Norwegian Sun, Norwegian Dawn and Norwegian Majesty. Svedung, who lives in Sweden, has served on Norwegian Dawn since 2006; prior to that he worked for Star Cruises, one of Norwegian’s shareholders, for 12 years. Both captains are looking forward to this exciting and challenging new role. Klaus Lugmaier and Sean Wurmhoeringer will serve as Norwegian Epic’s hotel directors. Lugmaier, currently director of shipboard operations at the company’s Miami headquarters, began his career at Norwegian 21 years ago aboard Seaward and held a variety of positions before becoming one of the youngest hotel directors in the cruise industry at the age of 26. As hotel director, he has launched seven of the company’s new ships, including Leeward, Norwegian Sky, Norwegian Star, Norwegian Dawn, Norwegian Jewel, Norwegian Pearl and Norwegian Gem. He was also part of the team that launched Norwegian Dream and Norwegian Wind. Wurmhoeringer, with Norwegian since 2002, is currently serving as hotel director on Norwegian Spirit and has also served on Norwegian Dawn, Norwegian Jewel, Norwegian Pearl, Norwegian Gem, Norwegian Sun and Norwegian Sky.
“We carefully chose these seasoned veterans to lead the on board team that will launch the most important project in the company’s history,” said Kevin Sheehan, Norwegian Cruise Line’s chief executive officer. “We are confident that they have the expertise, dedication and passion to make Norwegian Epic’s launch and inaugural season extremely successful.”

Inaugural Sailing Dates
The company also revealed that it will showcase Norwegian Epic to travel partners and media in both Europe and the United States during five inaugural sailings, prior to the ship entering weekly service to the Caribbean in July, 2010 from Miami. Following delivery in mid-June, 2010, Norwegian Epic will sail to Rotterdam for a two-night inaugural cruise departing on June 19, followed by a one-night cruise from Rotterdam to London (Southampton) on June 21, and then a two-night inaugural cruise from London (Southampton) on June 22. Following her transatlantic crossing from London to New York on June 24, the ship will be christened in New York on July 2, followed by a three-night inaugural cruise over the Fourth of July weekend. Once in Miami, the ship will sail a two-night inaugural cruise on July 8. The ship’s first seven-day Eastern Caribbean voyage is scheduled for July 10 and is currently on sale, along with the ship’s alternating Western Caribbean sailings.

On our recent Dawn cruise we learned that the following are going to the Epic. Dindo, bar manager, Chonna, bar server, and Janet Souza--would be nice if all cruisers asked the crew who is going !!! It is really going to change the usual crew on ships, especially with the end of the Majesty--all those crew have to be fitted in too...

Just off the Dawn and Captain Hakan Svedung was great! We spoke to many of the staff members over the 9-day cruise, but only a handful were going over to the Epic. Don't know how true it is, but we were told they were asked by their supervisors to do so.
