Many thanks

I travel solo. I usually meet someone and we will go together he/her paying his/her way. Do you feel the same way at dinner (5th wheel), or are you outgoing? Go to the singles party the first night, you might meet someone who would like to go too.

If you are seated at a large table in the dining room, perhaps some (or all) of your tablemates may plan to go to Pinnacle and maybe you'd all go together. The suggestion to attend the singles get together is a good idea. There are many opportunities to meet others. That is one of the best things about cruising for solo travelers. You certainly may go on your own but seeing as you asked the question, you might enjoy it more if you are with a companion.

As a single Mom I cruised on Disney Magic with my boys. I wanted to go to the adult restaurant (Palo) but was not excited about going on my own. I didn't attend any of the "singles" events although they were offered throughout the cruise. The last day I met another Mom who was travelling solo with her daughter, we compared notes and realized that we both lost out as she too wanted to go to Palo. :o

Since hindsight is the best foresight, I would recommend you attend a couple of the singles functions early in the cruise. If nothing else, you might find others that really would love to go to the Pinnacle too but are also hesitant to go alone!

I am also travelling solo. I think I will ask the Maitre'd at the Pinnacle whether he can match me with another solo traveller who doesn't want to eat alone.

On our recent cruise, I saw an elderly man eating by himself at lunch in the Pinnacle.

And several evenings another man ate dinner by himself. This gentleman also attended the wine luncheon that we went to and requested a table by himself.

Do you eat solo at nice restaurants at home? If so, do you feel awkward then?
I would expect you would feel the same way dining alone in the Pinnacle as you do at home. I'll have to admit I'm quite comfortable alone at a nice restaurant, but would not go to the Pinnacle alone.

The suggestions that you meet others at the singles get-togethers, or join others from your dining room table are good. Don't limit yourself, though. Strike up a converstation at the bar, pool, Lido, games, etc.
When you travel solo you tend to force yourself to be more outgoing---improving the chances of finding a dining companion!

If, however, you do not find someone to join you, and don't want to dine alone, you should find the main dining room quite satisfactory.

I went there several times during my cruise . I went with a friend from the board here and also alone. I had a good time both ways !!! If you do not find a friend to go with go alone !!! You will still enjoy the Pinnacle !!!!

I had dinner in the Pinnacle on the Volendam last June and I had dinner "solo". However, I have been known to eat solo. I did not feel awkward.

Go alone if you have to. I'm used to eating at fine restaurants alone while on business travel, so eating alone at the Pinnacle wouldn't bother me at all.

I recently returned from a cruise on the Queen Mary 2 and made a single reservation for dinner at the Todd English Restaurant. I did meet a couple who also planned on dining there on the same date as I had reserved and we did dine together. However, when I made my reservation with the Maitre d'(very soon after I had boarded in New York), he did not react negatively at all to a "single" reservation. The non-verbal message I received was " singles are welcome!!".

I will be dining at the Pinnacle Grill on the short 4 day cruise of the Zuiderdam on February 8th. I will make the reservation just for me. In such a short time period, I would be surprised if I find someone else to join me. Will I enjoy the dining experience? I most certainly expect so!

I just recently returned from a 7 day trip on the Oosterdam. I ate solo in the Pinnacle Grill. I had a great meal with great service. I have no problem eating alone, but I know some people do

I agree entirely. Don't let the fact that you might have to go alone stop you. Go and enjoy. I've never eaten at the Pinnacle alone only because I just "discovered" it during my last cruise. I just happened to be fortunate enough to receive an invite one night, and arranged to go with some other passengers I spent time with during the week on the second Pinnacle visit. But I wouldn't hesitate to go alone. That food is so good that I wouldn't miss it for the world on my next HAL cruise. If I have to go alone, fine.

In fact, I'm cruising on Princess in January (first time) and I noticed that they have a steak house aboard. I sure plan to eat there too, and going alone won't bother me at all.

Blue skies ...
