I am tempted by Regent's offer of free excursions for early reservation of cruises in 2010. How does this work?
When I looked up the website to see what free excurions were available for a mediterranean cruise in September 2010, none was listed. In general are all excursions (apart from private tours) free? When can excursions be booked?

Sho,
Excursions and airfare are included for all 2010 cruises whether you book early or not. However, deduct $1000 extra per person is only available until Sept 30, 2009 (who knows if that will be extended). The prices you see on the RSSC website include the $1000 off.
You can see what excusions will probably be available for the 2010 Med cruises by bringing up the cruise you are interested in and clicking on the shore excusion tab.
All the excursions are not free, some of the longer or more expensive excursions still have a cost, although supposedly at a much reduced cost to what the cost would be with another cruise line. Nothing has yet been listed regarding which tours are free and which tours have a price foir the 2010 Med cruises yet.
However, you can go to one of the Med cruises for Sept 2009, for example the Sept 4th cruise, and click on the shore excursions for that cruise. Those show which tours are Free and other tours that still have a cost.
Also, you can get a credit for airfare if you do not need or want Regent to take care of your flights, for example if you have FF miles that you are able to use on your own.
Hope that helps.

Just want to add that the credit if you don't use the "free air" is $1,000 PP. Also, if you use their "free air" there are additional air taxes you will be charged.

My TA said the deduction for not using the free air to Alaska was $700. Correct? Or is the deduction $1,000? Or does it depend on the destination?

It depends on the destination. Our Western Caribbean cruise, sailing from Ft Lauderdale and back, had a $500 per person credit.
Note, the way that free air is figured has changed, and the credit will likely change to match. In the past, the free air included only the air fare and not the air taxes & fees. Thus, the credit was for the air fare portion, only. Effective yesterday, the free air will now include both the air fare and the air taxes & fees. the amount of the cruise fare has been increased to cover the difference (nothing is ever "free"), so I imagine the air credit will also be increased as well if one does not used the free air.

I believe Regent has now incorporated the taxes into the price, so hopefully no tax surprises in the invoice.

Your right about that "free air". Our recent booking had over $610 in air taxes and fees.

Wow! That's amazing. Our transatlantic next year only had $150 in air taxes and fees. I wonder if 2009 flights were hit with a hefty surcharge?

From the Regent site:
"Advertised fare includes all surcharges, airline fees and government taxes."
This is a recent change, so those fees which used to be seperate should now be included.

Ours is based on VERY long flights. Vancouver to Cape Town and Rio to Vancouver -- Business Class. We did the $999 per person each way to upgrade. This was only done last week (we changed our 2010 cruise to 2009).
In terms of "Advertised fare includes all surcharges, airline fees and government taxes.". . . well, it is the Regent new computer system:rolleyes: Since the airfare is free, how can airline fees and government taxes be included?

I just booked 3 cabins for 2010
and the taxes, fuel surcharges, and all of the fees
for the cruise, airfare etc were NOT included in the price and raise it...
So even if the air was "free"..the other charges, taxes etc got put on top...
Interestingly--
the rates quoted yesterday went down about 200$ for our double occ cabins but went up $800 for the single occ cabin! So overall betwen yesterday and today-it went up $400
We are flying out of one of the approved/hubs so at least didn't have to add another $199 pp for the flights...
I am wondering if some of the fees are part of those environmental impact fees --as we are cruising Seward to Vancover...with the pre-cruise tour
