I have a deck 5 SC suite (stern, corner) reserved for my Nov cruise on the Noordam. I'm thinking about changing to a SB suite (stern, corner) on deck 7. Is this a better cabin? Would it be worth the extra cost?

We had 7151, corner aft on deck 7 for our Alaska cruise and it was incredible. I can't compare it to the corner afts on deck 5 since I haven't been in one of those. We were on the Zuiderdam, the Noordam's sister ship.

We did an extensive blog of our cruise which includes pictures of the veranda, cabin, etc. I think the difference might be that the stern facing portion of the veranda on deck 7 is about 2/3 covered and 1/3 uncovered which gives you options depending on the weather. The side veranda is completely covered.

Also, the Neptune Lounge is on deck 7 and we used it more than we thought we would.

We specifically booked an SC on Deck 5 for a cruise next year, after spending lots of time chatting with folks on CC about it. As I understand it, Deck 5 aft suites are a bit larger than other SB and SC afts, with a significantly larger balcony. They also are completely covered, unlike the others which have only partial cover. The downside is distance from the Neptune.

Completely covered verandah would also be a downside for me. If having the choice of half sun/half covered, I'd definitely take the half and half.

Being so far from Neptune would make it very impractical for you to enjoy it's benefits. You'd hardly go there. Distance is too far to want to bring back a cup of coffee or pop in for a chat with Concierge.

JMHO......

The size of the verandah is not important to me.

Cabin location - definitely -- like to be close to the Neptune Lounge on the Vista and Signature ships.

What would be the equivalent cabin number on the Eurodam? They don't have a 7151 on it

Nope - The staterooms are going to be identical in size and configuration as well as the degree to which the verandahs are covered.
The only reason that it's categorized an SB rather than an SC is that it's higher up and closer to the Neptune.

I had 7151 last April aboard the Westerdam and absolutely loved it. I also heard that the corner suites on deck 5 were larger, but the balcony was covered, but the suites on deck 4 were also large, and the balconies were mostly uncovered. I wanted sun, so I booked the SC on 4. After cruising in 7151 however, I really changed my mind. Some shade is good, and the view from the higher deck is just awesome. I called HAL, and had my cabin switched to 7151, and OBTW, the price on my rebooking was much better than the original!:D

We sailed in SC5186 and then moved up to SB7142 on a B2B on the Oosterdam pre-retrofit. The cabin in the SC is definitley a bit bigger in length from the closets to the sliding doors by the bed. We measured about 2 to 3 extra feet between the bed and the sliding doors in 5186. When we moved up to the SB on deck 7, there was a definite difference in space (less of it) from the bed to the doors.

I have not been on the Oosterdam since the retrofit, but what I've been told is that the veranda on deck 5 is covered where the other decks above are half covered/ half sun. It all depends on what your preferences are in which one you choose.:)
