On some website describing the Westerdam, a coffee/tea maker was listed as standard in all cabins. If true, that would be wonderful, as my cabinmate doesn't drink coffee, and I can barely brush my teeth until I've had a cup, but I'd hate to bother the cabin steward to bring coffee for one. I'm sure my friend would want to go to the Lido for breakfast later, so we wouldn't be ordering room service. Can anyone confirm that there are coffeemakers and whether the supplies are restocked each day. Even a hot water pot and instant coffee would be okay for me -- at least for that first cup.

Unless this is one of the SOE upgrades I am not familiar with this being true. I was on the Zuiderdam and they did not have this feature.

We were in a suite on the Oosterdam and there wasn't a coffee maker.

There are no coffee makers on any of the ships, except in the Penthouse suites. Coffee makers/kettles are not allowed on the ships for safety reasons.
You can just order coffee in the morning. Fill out the card that will be on your pillow each evening and hang it outside the door. Nothing wrong with just ordering coffee - lots of people do it.

I'm not aware of any coffeemakers except in the penthouse suite. But I'm a MUST HAVE coffee first thing person and my DH doesn't drink the stuff, so I always order room service for a fresh pot every morning. You can do it the night before, just specify what time to be delivered in the am. I LOVE IT - COFFEE FIRST THING ON MY BALCONY IS HEAVEN!!!

Thanks for the information. Will the steward have to come into the cabin to deliver the coffee? I don't want to disturb my cabinmate. And how much would you tip for just coffee? At a hotel, I usually tip $5 for a light breakfast, when a room service charge is already added. But that seems a bit much for just a pot of coffee -- although I suppose the effort for the steward is similar whatever he delivers. How early does the Lido start serving coffee if I decide to stumble out?

The cabin steward doesn't have to enter the room, you can take the tray from him at the door if you wish. I always tip $1 each time, no matter what I have delivered to the room. I don't know what others do. Happy Sailing!

It won't be your cabin steward delivering the coffee; it will be a roomservice steward. Service starts at 6:00 A.M. I've always found delivery to be within 2-3 minutes either way of the requested time.
A $1.00 tip sounds sufficient.
If you want anything in your coffee you need to specify that on the request form. Milk/cream or sugar/sugar substitute can't be counted on unless you say so.

Sorry, I meant to say dining steward but my fingers actually type faster than my brain thinks...what does that say about me?:D :D For those that aren't "GOTTA HAVE COFFEE FIRST THING" people you won't understand why we can't wait to go to the DR or Lido for our first cup. I always mark the card even if it's just for coffee every morning. There's nothing like having it delivered to your cabin, but RuthC is right, whatever you need for your coffee, please indicate on your order or it will arrive without (which for some of us, is almost as bad as no coffee :p :p ) HAPPY SAILING!

Great, that should give me all the info I need to survive mornings. Glad someone understands the "got to have it, now" need. And I won't worry about the "go withs" -- for me, if it isn't black it isn't coffee. Unless it's Starbucks SF vanilla breve latte in the afternoon!

If you have not yet tried coffee in Vista ship Windstar Cafes, you are in for a treat. We think their coffees to be wonderful and very moderately priced for large cups.
