We will be on the Zuiderdam in early '05 and were wondering about the hydrotherapy areas? We both enjoy a nice steam and whirlpool after our time in the gym and were wondering about the options in the hydro / wet area on the ship.

Cheers

The Greenhouse Spa is on all 3 of the Vista Class (including the Zuirderdam) and the newly remodeled Ryndam. You can use the Hydrotherarpy Pool and Steam rooms for $15.00 per day and can be used all day. There are also certain deluxe packages that also offer the use of the facilities all day. I did just a massage and paid extra for the use of the wet areas. I really enjoyed it and after using it felt it was well worth the $15.00 I enjoyed the steam rooms one even had a slight aromatherapy, but the best was the shower that had the mist aromatherapy of rose or mint. I really liked the rose. The heated chairs were also great. On our upcoming Westerdam I plan to do a lot more than one day so go and enjoy:)

Had just been contemplating the day rate for hydrotherapy area -- sounds as if it's worth it and, like you, I may want more. Do you have any idea what the packages cost, or where I could find the rates? I couldn't find them HAL website.

There are numerous packages that include Greenhouse Spa Retreat they range in prices from $350.00 to one of their facials called a LaTherapie HydaLift Facial for$99.00 which includes the Spa Retreat. I just did the Swedish Massage that was $99.00 and paid the $15.00 to enjoy the rest for the whole day. I have had numerous massages and have to admit this was a great message and absolutely no solicitation. It was a totally relaxing day.

This is a sore point with me. On non Vista ships and up until the Ryndam got the full SOE treatment, there were showers, sauna and steamrooms for men and women that were free. One could use them for a short time after working out in the gym.

I agree that the Greenhouse Spa is great and $15 is probably a fair price if you are going to hang out there for some time.

However, I do not want to pay that every day after going to the gym.

Thanks for the response!
Is there a weekly rate for the Hydrotherapy areas as well?

Cheers!

That is an excellent question, but I do not think so or I think they would post it. That would be an excellent sales tool though:rolleyes: Maybe we could suggest it to them.

This is probably a dumb question but...what exactly is included for the $15.00 fee - what all do you get to use?

Thanks:)

Just came back from the Thanksgiving Cruise on the Z. Will be posting my review in a few days, but to answer your question:
1. there are free whirlpools at both the Lido and Aft Pools
2. there is free sauna next to the Lido Pool
3. the Spa's Hydrotherapy Pool is $15 per day (worth every penny IMO)
4. the Thermal Suites (Thermal Beds, Sauna & Steam Rooms, awsome aromatherapy showers) is a separate $15 per day
5. There is a package of unlimited use of both Hydrotherapy Pool and Thermal Suites for $120 for a 7-day cruise (remember: on embarkation day anyone rarely uses the spa, therefore, $120 divided by 6 = $20 per day, if you do use it everyday, not a bad deal).

I decided to pay on a daily basis and that worked out better for me since I never went on port days or beach days (ie: HMC day, St Thomas and Tortola, I went to the beach all those days and was not on board for most of the day); I did go both sea days and on the day at Nassau; on the last port day (Nassau) being the last day I got a discount of both for $20. So I had three full days of unlimited use of both Hydrotherapy Pool and Thermal Suites for $80, saved $40. Actually saved $80 since I travel with my mother, had I paid for the week it would have been $240, too much for three days IMO.

In all honesty, I found we used the pool much more than the thermal suites, next time I will just go for the hydrotherapy pool, it is wonderful!

Hope this answers your question,

AlinaMaria

This is interesting because on the Ryndam in their New Greenhouse Spa the Hydrotherapy Pool and Thermal Suite were all in one area and when they took me on a short tour prior to starting my relaxing day there they explained it was all together. I used it all for $15.00 per day. I never tried it on the Oosterdam or Zuirderdam so I really did not know what they offered. I was hoping it would be the same on the Westerdam. If the Hydrotherapy Pool is a seperate charge and seperate from the Thermal Suite then I doubt I will make that splurge of $30.00 per day. In my opinon it was not worth that much but $15.00 per day was. I had fun goin from the Hydrotherapy Pool to the Thermal Loungers, then to the Saunas then took a shower in the Rose Aromatheropy shower, then back to the pool. It was wonderfully relaxing.

Thanks, AlinaMaria, for the detailed information. Do you happen to know the hours the therapy pool and thermal suites are open? It's always a disappointment to me that the ships' pools are not open in the evening after dinner. I'm wondering if the T-pool is open later?
Thanks in advance,
Susan

Yes, our friend had a week pass for the wet areas, maybe $120? I'll check it out. I received a day pass with each treatment, so if you use the Steiner services, you can expect to use the hydrotherapie pool and eucalyptus sauna as well.

Thanks for the response!

Where on the Lido is the free sauna? That would be great since it is all that we really like to do in the spa and $15 each seems a little much for a 15 minute sweat. Thanks.

This is a question that I asked on several threads. On the Oosterdam, I was told at the Spa desk that there was not one. Some posters have said that there was a free sauna. I hope to get on the Ryndam that has had the full SOE treatment and check it out more throughly.

To answer your question YES and YES. When they give you your locker key you will find a clean robe and set of slippers in the locker, one larger size and one smaller size you pick which one fits you best.

On the Oosterdam there was a free sauna that was located at the very back of the Lido Buffet just before you go out the doors to the Aft Pool. It is located on the Starboard side next to the Men's bathroom near the elevators. Hope that helps, can't remeber if there was one like that on the Zuirderdam. I just got off the Ryndam on the 20th and there was NOT a free sauna there. The only ones were part of the Greenhouse Spa but you can use all the facilites for the $15.00 per day.

We will be on the Volendam Dec 26th. Do the other ships have a similar configuration for the sauna? Thank you.

On Zuidy it's on the port side, just to the left as you go thru the glass doors toward the reception area from the pool area.

On Zuidy they hand you a robe (no slippers) with your locker key. The locker itself is open and empty. Towels are in the changing rooms.

That does help alot, THANKS. I must say though that that seems to be a WEIRD place to put a sauna. Is it ackward to get to? I guess you have to enter the Lido restaurant in your bathing suit & coverup in order to get to the sauna? Also, was there a seperate men's and women's sauna or was it just one that was unisex?

Thanks for the help!!!

I thought it was a strange place also, I believe it was unisex, I never saw anyone using it. I did walk into it a few times to see how hot it was. But then we were in Alaska and not many were walking around with bath suits.

Thanks Vegas (Lisa)...I guess it's worth trying out and if I don't like it I'll try the spa. I will say I'm not too hip on the idea of a unisex sauna  but we'll see what it's like - maybe I'll be the only one there! :p

On the Zuiderdam, are there separate steam/saunas in the spa for men and women, or is it co-ed?

When you get a massage on the Zuiderdam do they try to sell you products the whole time? Should you tell them ahead of time on a card that you might fill out if you have to do that if you are not interested in hearing about products?

Thank you

I've never experienced anyone pushing products while having a massage.
It was very relaxing and I totaly enjoyed it.

I went to a few of their make-up or aromatherapy classes and products may have been mentioned but no sales pitch.

Go for the massage and enjoy!!!

The hydrotherapy pool and steam rooms were the highlight of our at sea days on the O'Dam. I could have spent all day there! Well worth the money. Loved the heated chairs and aromatherapy. So relaxing. . .

They always tried to push the products on me but never during the massage. It was always after the massage.
