Hello All:

OK - I usually go for a verandah stateroom and after each cruise I wonder why as I really don't utilize it like I should for the extra $$$.

Question 1: Anyone done the insides on Regatta? How was it? Too confining, etc?

Question 2: What Cat. are the Obstructed Cabins? Can't figure it out from the "O" site - I may be overlooking it.

Thanks to all who respond!

We were in a handicapped cabin inside on the Insignia in the Black Sea. We had booked an inside guarantee and was assigned to the handicapped cabin by Oceania. Our cabin attendent said the handicapped inside cabins were the same size as the penthouse suites without the balcony. It was huge, as was the bathroom. However, we have no idea, what the regular inside cabins look like, but I would say they are very adequate from the description and size. Go to www.cruisestateroom.com and check out your cabin and ship. It's very helpful.

Hi, my wife and I are booked in an inside handicap cabin. Did the bathroom have a roll in shower? We have been trying to find more information on the acessability for wheelchairs in the cabin. Thanks for any info.

We had an inside handicap cabin on the Insignia this past Oct.
It did not have a roll-in shower just a large bathroom with
a raised tub with shower(4034). The rest of the cabin was nice and
large with room for a wheelchair.

Hey JCONEIL and NAROB - do either of you have any pictures of the handicap cabin and or the bathroom?

Thanks for the reply!

We sailed on Regatta last Jan from Costa Rica to LA. This was the first time my wife and I had sailed with Oceania and the first time for an inside cabin.
The cabin was fine. We found it very nice not to have the sun wake us in the morning. It was on the deck 8 if I remember correctly. It was on the same deck with the large cabins. The size of the cabin did not bother us at all it was about the same as any ocean view cabin we have had in the past. We did find that Oceania exceded all of our expectations in the food department. We got a very good deal on this cruise about 1000.00 each with airfare inc from LA to Costa Rica. I really don't think we will ever see a deal like that on Oceania again. At that price we would have been happy staying in the laundry room.
We had just sailed on RCL from Hawaii to Mexico in Dec before our Oceania cruise. We had an aft balcony cabin on RCL which was wonderful. I would take an inside in the future unless I could get another aft cabin. No more side balcony or ocean views. Only Aft or inside for us.

If you check over some of my past posts on the Oceania board you can find out quite a bit about my cruise and what I think about Oceania.
While on our cruise the dealers in the ship were very hot. I thought is was a pretty good gambler coming from Vegas until that cruise. LOL.
Have a great Vacation.

John, Thanks for the info. I guess that I will have a lot of fun getting my wife out of the wheelchair and into the tub. If the food and service on the ship is as good as advertized then the rest is just part of the adventure.

Your best bet would be to "ask" your travel agent to contact Oceania ( Miami
reps for verification). There is a website that has the lay out of all the rooms on Regatta ( Insignia is the same so rooms would be the same).. below is the link to that website. click on a cabin and you will see the layout. The handicap rooms have a picture of a wheel chair . I am not positive, but I think that there are no tubs in those cabins???
Only showers. Only cabins with tubs are penthouse suites and above categories. But, maybe they did the handicapped rooms differently ??

Already posted the sight but if you click on this you can look at which cabins are where ( and when you click on that cabin see the layout too! Click on the deck ( deck 6) midship-and the ones that have OV on them are your obstructed view cabins. Regatta and Insignia ( and Nautica soon ;-) ) are all the same layout.

Personally, I'd rather stay home than not have a cabin with a private deck. I find I use it a lot.

Skinndog: The food and service was as advertised, very good.
We were wondering ourselves how a wheelchair bound person
would get into the tub. There are the usual handholds and they
should help.
FrankLasVegas: Sorry no pics. The only ones we have of the
cabin were of me packing on the last night. Worst part of the
cruise.
ClaudiaF. Handicap cabin 4034 on the Insignia does have a tub
(raised), with a shower in the tub. A nice sized cabin and bathroom.

Then I also wonder why? How would a handicapped person climb into that tub?
Perhaps a cabin with a shower would be easier for you.
I know that many cabins with "tubs" DO NOT have grab bars ( the owners suite and penthouses) and although we are not handicapped have requested they install those on those comment cards they send to cabins asking what you think . It is just dangerous doing the climb. ;-)

ClaudiaF - We did have our travel agent ask about the accessability in the cabin and all we were told was that the handicap cabins were "fully compliant" with the US ADA requirements. They were not sure if there was a shower or tub in the cabin. I knew about the web site with the cabin layouts. It only shows a generic inside cabin layout with no difference for the handicap cabins. I figured that the best way to get the answers was to ask on this board and find someone who had been there. It worked! :)

jconeil - OH Boy, a raised tub. That should make getting in and out more of an adventure.:( Hey, it could be worse. There may not be a shower chair in the tub which would make it impossible for my wife to use the whole thing. Grab bars are not too much use to us since my wife cannot really move herself around that well and I have to do most of the lifting and ballance. We have survived worse. At one island hotel we could not get the wheelchair through the door into the room which was advertised as accessable. There was also a step up into the bathroom. That was a lot of fun.:D

:) The only difference between a balcony cabin on deck 6 and an inside cabin is the balcony and about 2 or 3 square feet in the cabin. If you want to see the sun in the morning, don't get an inside cabin. But as someone who has sailed on Oceania twice in an inside cabin, and twice on Ren in an inside cabin...I had no problem. The amount of closet and drawer space is the same, and of course the bathroom is just as small. As far as the obstructed views, they are on deck 6 and are smaller in square footage than the inside cabins. They are midship. Hope this helps.
