Hi everyone...I'm a newbie to the board and am hoping some of you expert cruisers can help me answer a few questions. I am currently trying to decide between two 2010 British Isle cruises...SilverSea in/out of Tower Bridge and Crystal in/out of Dover. I have been lurking here gleaning a wealth of information, but I need a little clarification/assistance regarding the following:

(1) Disembarkation: If the Silver Cloud arrives at Tower Bridge by 6:00 am could I comfortably make a 1:30pm flight from Heathrow?

(2) Smoke Odor in Cabins: I know this is a very sensitive topic from my reading of previous threads...please know that I do not have a problem with having designated smoking areas on the ship...so no unhappy faces please ;). I am only worried about the cabins whether anyone has had problems with either lingering smoke odors from the previous cruise or from adjacent cabins. Have allergies and since hubby and I will be celebrating a special anniversary I don't want to get sick :).

(3) SilverSea Tours: Has there been a large problem regarding pre-booked tour cancellations...if so how much notice did SS typically provide. I know it is a much smaller ship as compared to Crystal, etc...just didn't know if this significantly increased the risk of getting to a port and finding out that I have no tour.

Thank you in advance for any and all help! :)

Hi, Symi! Welcome to SS.

1. Can't help you on this one. I would check with SS or your TA.

2. Usually no odor, but depending on your sensitivity, you can request a deep cleaning. I would mention this to SS or your TA so they are aware before you get on board. This way they can make sure their is no problem because you may not be able to get the cleaning done till the next day. If ship is not fully booked, you would probably just be transeferred to another suite. But, why take a chance on spending a rough night? Also, have your TA or yourself request this in writing and request the response in same.

3. Usually you receive a 24 hr. notice. Cancellations will usually be due to lack of participation or severe weather.

If the ship docks at 6AM you should easily be able to make a 1:30 flight. I would prebook a private car and driver to facilitate the transfer.
