View Full Version : Got Cabin Assignment....She Dwells With the Squid

I booked an inside guarantee back in January for my upcoming Dec. 11 cruise on the Zaandam. The cruise has been a slow seller, based on what I've seen on the HAL website. A few weeks ago it appeared that they were re-selling the inside categories, so I was keeping my fingers crossed for an upgrade. Besided booking early, I'm sailing solo, so I can be moved around easily.

Today I entered my booking # on the immigration form, and up popped my cabin assignment - an M category inside cabin on the Dolphin deck, next to the elevators. LOL! I took my chances and now I'm in the bowels of the ship, dwelling at squid level.

I'm just glad to be cruising, and HAL only charged me a 135% single supplement, so I'm happy as a clam.

Just a warning to those who book guarantees and then complain about getting what they paid for. Make sure an inside cabin on the bottom deck won't spoil your cruise, because that may be exactly what you get.

Hi Roz, we learned that valuable lesson a few yrs ago. We booked an outside gty and got the worst location/cabin in that category - 1st cabin forward on the deck, not even regular configuration. Since then we have picked our category/cabin to ensure we are happy with it. Happy Sailing!

When life hands you squid---make calimari!

Honestly, Roz, a 135% single supplement must make up for it a bit? Not a bad surcharge.

Have a wonderful trip anyplace you rest your weary bones.

Well at least you're on the ship! And thank goodness you finally made it out of cabin #0000, 'cause it was getting crowded in there!!

Are we still gathering after muster in the Crows Nest????

I've been checking the roll call board - there are a few more CC-ers on the 12/11 Zaandam sailing that have been sending in e-mails.

Two weeks from now we'll be getting spruced up for the captain's dinner! Can't wait.

That's a good approach, Ruth. I like that. I've cruised before and just don't spend that much time in my cabin, even when I'm with someone else. When I cruised solo before, I found that I met more people by spending time in public areas like the Crow's Nest. Going on the ship's shore excursions is another way. I'm surely not going to meet people staying in my inside cabin on the Dolphin Deck. LOL!

You're right. That 135% single supplement was too good to pass up. I'd book another inside guarantee for a fare like that.

Melianne,

I'm planning on being in the Crow's Nest after muster drill. Do you have your cabin assignment yet? It was nice not to see #0000 again!

to cabin 3397. We booked a guaranteed category K and received a DD which is a fully obstructed outside cabin. We can't complain. For what we paid, it's a steal.

See you in the Crows Nest after muster!!

Have you found transportation to the cruiseport yet? Jean was asking on the roll call thread . . . good luck.

Hi Roz, glad you have your assignment, now you can fill in all of your baggage tags! If you get too claustraphobic in your cabin, come hang out with me on our balcony....jean

Melianne, Roz and Jean;

I see you are all planning to get together in the Crows Nest right after Muster Drill.

Sharon and I will also meet you there. I won't be staying too long because I love to be up on deck when we pull out of port. I am quite unemotional......however, leaving port always gives me warm fuzzies and brings tears to my eyes - especially when we are leaving port on a new cruise.

Cruising is a big deal to me. I always say I work to cruise. So, here I am unemployed and still cruising - oh well, it has been 5 months and I am going through cruise withdrawal.

Won't be long now!

Regards,

Marion

Roz...we were on that deck on our Zaandam New Year's cruise last year, inside room, probably 4 or 5 rooms from the elevator. We usually have outside or balcony rooms, so I was a bit nervous about an inside, but the location really was better than we had thought (think we were an MM category). Walking the stairs made me feel like I was working off the bread pudding, etc. I was enjoying so much! Have a great cruise!!

Just returned from Europe on the ms Westerdam.

Just a bit of good news, the final draw for a free cruise was won by someone in the 00000 category room numbers. Keep your fingers crossed and you may be lucky also for a free cruise.

Hi, Roz, I enjoy your good humor. Many times people whom book a guaranteed room seem to think that it's their God given right to be up-graded and to be placed in what they paid for, well...quelle horror! I too book guaranteed space hoping to be scooted up, and more often than not I am. But to think that I must would truly be the heighth of supposition, I wont do that!

Opps, that's to be placed in what they didn't pay for!

Confusious say "It is better to dwell with the squid , than to sleep with the fishes".

Y'all are a real hoot! Terry, you're right, I'm in an MM category. George, "squid lemonade"? Yuck! The title of your post cracked me up. Calliope, I know what you mean about people being upset about getting the cabin they paid for. They're calling their TA, the cruise line, etc. trying to get reassigned. Makes no sense. I agree, Charlie, tis better to dwell with squid than the fishes.

It happened to my best friend's dentist's son-in-law's tile installer. Booked the lowest priced inside cabin and was upgraded to the penthouse. It happened on RCI's COS (Chicken of the Seas).

Hey, someone has to keep the myths alive.:D

I've booked guarantee's before. Last one I did I ended up in the category I booked forward in the first 2 cabins. I thought it would be the pits but turned out to be pretty good. It was quiet up front.

Calliope - I booked the Delta Queen for next summer RT Cincy. When's your next one?
