I thought that instead of being negative and talking about the bad, we could talk about the good.
My favorite place on the Zuiderdam is in the Vista Lounge in those two box seat looking places. They have the most comfortable couches ever! I just sat there and fell asleep.

I like the balcony cabins which are priced much less then the balcony cabins on the S ships.

On the Oosterdam - same class of ship - we enjoyed sitting in the 'box' seats in the Ocean Bar listening to the music.

The Lido biffet - another great place - so many stations & so much food.

Like KK, I liked the Lido Buffet on the Oosterdam. The various stations for breakfast and lunch eliminated the horrendous lines ups that are on the smaller ships.

When I first cruised on RCI Radiance, I was impressed with the food stations in the Wind Jammer. But the Lido on the Oosterdam was even more efficient. Not only that, the food is better and more varied and the servers are more pleasant.

Love those glass elevators!
Aft-facing balcony staterooms and corner suites!
Embarking straight into the Lower Atrium - makes it feel like entering a hotel and is easier to find the Tender Lobby just one deck down...
SS Suites!
Wicker & teak furniture on the verandahs!
Jacuzzi and Bar at the aft-Lido Pool!
Odyssey overlooking the Atrium and big windows over the ocean!
Teak Deck furniture on the Observation Deck!

On the Oosterdam:

The Beds
The Beds
The Beds
The Beds
The Beds

Aaaaahhhhhh...............................hmmmm...

Did I mention the beds? Absolutely the most comfortable beds I have ever slept on .... just yummy to snuggle into every night. And I know my beds;) .

The beds on the Vistas don't really count because they are being put on all the ships. We had the new mattresses, pillows, and bedding on the Maasdam.

It's hard to find very much I didn't like much better on the Rotterdam and the Maasdam than I did on the Oosterdam. About the only thing was I did like the location and design of the Pinnacle restaurant better on the Oosterdam, but considering the total package I would always book a cruise on the older HAL ships.

I think the Lido is way better on Vista than on the other ships.

I like the small side (smoking section) of Ocean Bar. Even though we are not smokers, we like to sit at the bar (or around the cocktail tables) at that small side area. Many people don't even know it's there.

I love the glass elevators and the elevator doors on the regular 'lifts'.

Pinnacle on Zuiderdam is a beautiful restaurant IMO It's pretty on Rotterdam and we had some wonderful meals (very nice evenings) there, but I particularly like Pinnacle on ZUDM.

I love the length of Promenade Deck for walking. Because the ship is that much longer, three times around is a mile and because of the jag in the ship, it's very pleasant walking round and round and round.

Whoops! My mistake. I read the thread wrong. I thought it said "what do you like better about HAL ships". Oh well. I still like the beds:) .

I also love the glass elevators, that was one thing we missed on the Ryndam. I also love the inside elevator doors. I like the elevator area in the aft with the unique sofas. I like the center atrium made of Waterford Crystal. I also like the gym area that spreads across the front.

Gonna cruise soon

I had read that the shows on Holland America were not qiut as good as on some other lines. That must be BEFORE these travel writers sailed on a Vista class. the shows on the high tech stage were simply wonderful on the Oosterdam this past summer.
Also the Lido buffet was an improvement over the S-class ships. There seemed to be less queueing up !
