I thought I read here before, that HAL offers single cruisers to book a regular cabin and being assigned a companion, paying only half of the cabin fare. If they don't find a companion, you don't have to pay more.

Does this offer still exist? If yes, how can it be booked? If I go to HAL's website and select 1 passenger, I only get the choice of the single cabin or the regular cabins with full fare.

Yes, it's still done on most cruises (there are some --World Cruise-- where it's not offered) and I'm not sure how to book it online, as I use a TA. I think it's called a "single partners" and is available on Cat K or Cat F cabins. That's how I travel all the time.

It's called single share, and they still offer it. Do some shopping around, as you may be able to find a better rate NOT sharing a cabin. That was my situation in June of this year. In June, I sailed solo, IN MY OWN CABIN for $500 less than HAL wanted to charge me to share a cabin with a stranger.
I now have a wonderful TA who specializes in special solo rates. Contact me and I will give you her info. She responds very quickly to inquiries, she is fabulous.

Thank you both for your quick reply. Mary, I will contact you re your TA.

Here is my situation:

After havin done the transatlantic on Prinsendam just 2 weeks ago, we are just hooked to the ship and its wonderful crew. So we decided to do the Ireland and Iceland cruise next July on her and we want to bring my friends mother, so we are looking for an affordable cabin for her.

Unfortunately, right now, the prices for the lowest cat. cabin is higher than what we paid on the Transatlantic for a cat. S suite. I guess it is because of all the ports and their charges... So we are still in the planning stage...
