As suggested in my last post, I called my travel agent and was told HAL would upgrade my from a B Verandah to an S Deluxe Veranda for about 360.00 per person(Ryndam,Nov.1/09). 4th trip with HAL but I've never been in a deluxe suite before. Is this a good deal? Would it be worth my while to wait another few weeks and inquire again? Thanks again for any help and thanks to the people that replied to my last post. Goldeye

Everyone looks for something different in their cruising experience, so you have to decide what's important for you. We happen to love a large verandah, and would snap that up in a split second.

The S is 2x the size of the B. We would take it, but your circumstances could be different than ours. If you decide to go for it, don't wait too long - someone else could end in that cabin....

Having been on the Ryndam twice and both times in S-Suites, I would say it is very much worth it. It was great being across from the Neptune and just stepping in for a snack or drink to take back to the balcony, that was a huge perk of the S-category!

It's a very good deal... I'd take it in a Chicago minute!

Well, there appears to be only 1 option, so it's now officially booked! The only cruises for us so far have been SS suites on the Zuiderdam and Osterdam, so this should be a treat. I'm not going to let my wife know until we're on the ship(she doesn't follow this board, luckily) and I know she'll be ecstatic. Thanks for your opinions. :D

In my case, "Never put a man in a cabin that you do not plan on purchasing the rest of your life. TRUST ME ... I know".
I have to admit that I've learned to force myself to enjoy the suite life!

My very first cruise was a veranda "suite" on the Fantasy. Had a veranda the size of a postage stamp and a view of a lifeboat but at least you could get outside from the cabin. That was a try-it-you'll-like-it cruise for my ex and I. We did and our next cruise was an S on the Ryndam. Fast forward a few years and I'm on the Ryndam again with my bride for our honeymoon but in a Cat B. Several cruises later in cabins in Cat B to SS to S to RS (old Celebrity Galaxy) and there's no going back. Doesn't help that my DW is mildly claustrophobic but I did show her a very nice inside cabin on the Volendam on a cruise and she just gave me "that look" and walked on. :o
But back to the subject.....that was a great upsell! We've never been upgraded and only offered one upsell from a Cat B to an S and that was for the full fare difference which basically would have doubled our fare so we declined. Would have jumped at $360 per person. Good for you. :)

Wow! I just charged my credit card for my upgrade on Tuesday, almost 750.00 for both of us, went to the bank to pay off my credit card today and the upgrade amount was listed at 471.00. Phoned my TA about 30 min. ago and he told me he got me a better deal - 471.00 for both us for the upgrade! Since our cruise is on Nov.1/09, couldn't believe I got a price cut on the upgrade. I just had to post this, what a bonus!

Many congratulations! We paid over $400 each for the upsell once on Ryndam, and thought it was really worth it!. I'd always wanted to try a suite. Now I'll be grumpy if I have to do less than a balcony. (At least DH hasn't threatened me with an inside lately). Nancy
