Is the Lido pool, even when roof is closed, warm enough to swim?
Should I plan to pack walking shorts for indoor ship activities?
Never cruised Alaska before.

We have taken an Alaskan cruise in September -- and we did take a pair of bermudas with us.

Now we don;t use the pools -- but did see people swimming.

So if you like -- take along a swim suit.

Absolutely! Went in Sept. and spent many hours in the hot tubs on deck - outside in the open! And it was a pleasure! The pool water temps. were always listed in our daily program as being the same as the hot tubs - I'm thinking 88 degrees, but I could be wrong....its been over a year now. Still, with the magnificent scenery, spending time in the hot tubs with glorious mountains all around, eagles flying over head, and an adult beverage in hand....well, what could be better??? Take the swimsuit, doesn't take up much room and you'll regret it if you don't!

For our cruises in May HAL even arranged a "polar bear swim" in the aft pool, with ice cubes, when we were in Glacier Bay. A surprising # of people did it, too :) The Lido pool was busier than I expected most days.

We had a polar bear swim in the aft pool on both our Sept and May cruises to Alaska on the Ryndam. In May they even had the sliding roof open over the lido pool because it was so nice out!!! I would bring a suit.

I am currently on the Westerdam in Alaska. People are swimming and in the hot tub, but I have not seen anyone in shorts. It is about 55 degrees and rainy. Tonight we had to divert couse, because of hurricane force winds in Sitka. I hope the weather will be better for you.

Never cruised Alaska before.Alaska weather can be so variable at any time of the year but I think odds are in your favor that you'll have at least some time to don the walking shorts & swimsuit. Bring them along! Hope you have a fabulous cruise in the Great Land. :):)

OK - Just saw Susie's post "live" from Alaska. But I'm sticking to my story!

Bill; when they close the Magro roof, it tends to become nice and balmy in the Lido pool area. Bring your European swim shorts to AK, dude!;)

I appreciate the great advice and the shorts and trunk are packed away for Friday.
