I recently booked an owners suite that has the enclosed balcony. My decision was based on safety (4 yr old twins!) Now I'm wondering if anyone else has had experiences with young children and balconies. Also just interested in everyones take on the enclosed balcony. I know the obvious reasons to have an open balcony (fresh air, ect.) but curious what people think about being in the front of the ship and having an enclosed area. Do the windows get dirty? The only other cruise I've done with balcony was quite windy so we weren't able to sit out and enjoy it much. Cabin booked is 17004. Thanks

Many of the owners suites do not allow more than 2 passengers. Which ship?

First, the Epic is still in the ship yards. Please head over to the Epic site. You should get some better info.:)

No experience with young children (I brought my kids but they are adults) but I had the OS on the Sun to Alaska in August and while the cabin and service were terrific it wasn't really pleasant due to the weather. It was very cold and windy while sailing. The deck is HUGE and you'll enjoy it. Yes the glass partitions get very dirty from the salt water. I think it depends on your itinerary but I'll never get a forward cabin again after having an Aft suite to Alaska in May.....it was great.
Happy sails:)

On the Epic the owners suites do in fact hold 4 passengers. As far as a balcony with 4 yo kids it is your call. All other ships have a child safety lock on the door to the balcony. They can not fall off unless they are standing on chairs or doing something foolish. Only you can decide if your kids will follow the rules and not go on the balcony unless you are in the cabin.
Clearly the aft facing deluxe owners suites with an open balcony would make that balcony space more enjoyable. Not sure I want to sit in a greenhouse but that view over the bow should be stunning. I have to believe they will have some type of automated cleaning system to keep the glass clear. It may like the balcony cleaning systems on the other ships operate only in port.
At this point it is all speculation and we won't know the real details until after the first few cruises next year.

We have also booked an owners suite but open-air balcony as we prefer to sit out and enjoy the fresh air.
All of our cruises, we have always chosen suites in the front which is just our preference. We have gone through bad weather, windy days and still didn't find any issues with it.
Sorry we don't have any experiences to share on closed balconies. I'm sure your kids/family will love the view.

I have stayed in oceaan view cabins, which by design are windows only. I had no problem seeing out of the window at all times (except at night, it was a little dark to see out :D, lol). They clean the windows while in port as above. This will be a great location for you and your family.
Take the kids club tour the first day and sign them up for JR dinner on formal nights and enjoy extra time with hubby. The staff will ensure kids have fun and you and hubby can try some specialty dinner.
My grand daughter's were 5 and 9 the first time I took them on a cruise and they loved it. The OV was great as the first thing they did every morning was open the drapes to see what was outside.
The balconey OV will be the same except the windows will be floor to ceiling. All balconies now come with child proof locks just ask your room steward/butler for instructions ( the locks are at the top on the ones I have had on my balcony rooms. Out of reach for most young children.)
