We are booking a cruise for our son and his soon to be bride. The ship is the granduer from Baltimore. Can anyone recommend a hotel close to the pier? The ship sails 9/2005

There are no hotels very close to the pier. There are several nice hotels in the Inner Harbor area. That is also a good area for restaurants and shopping. Priceline has some good deals on hotels in that area. It is about twenty minutes from the pier. Let me know if I can help you with anything else. I have sailed from Baltimore so I know where the pier is located.

I have stayed there several times. It is 8 miles from the Inner Harbor and about a block from a large movie complex, Wendy's, etc.

Maybe only 8 miles but a long 8 miles, if that makes any sense!! Just stay downtown, as longtimecruiser is correct, there is no hotel right near the pier. I can recommend the Sheraton Inner Harbor, and there is also a Marriott there. If it's for the honeymoon, a nice room overlooking the harbor would be a fantastic treat the night before sailing!! Plus, then they could simply walk to an Orioles game or something, and a it's just a quick jaunt to our famous aquarium and science center!!

Best Western has a location at 5625 O'Donnell St., about 5-10 min to pier, this is about as close as you can get. There isn't much in the immediate area so if the couple is planning to spend a day or so sight seeing a hotel in the inner harbor area would be much better.
