I was in Boston this last weekend and went to a Blue Man Group show at the Charles Playhouse. Having only seen them on television, I thought it was just three guys playing cool music on PVC piping. Their show is so much more than that. Not only do they play cool music on PVC piping and drums and such, they are comediens, they use audience interaction, they use multi-media forms within each skit, and they never speak a word. Very very cool show appropriate and entertaining for all ages. I can see how BMG and the Epic will compliment each other.

Check out a sample below. Once you get to this website, click on "learn more" to see a short video:

They are currently in New York, Boston, Chicago, Las Vegas, Orlando, Berlin, and Tokyo! I was talking to one of the female ushers who seated us about the Norwegian Epic. She said her hubby works for NCL as one of the Cats Pajamas singing group. Small world, eh?

NCL picking up Blue Man Group is a HUGE deal. This takes the level of 'on the sea entertainment' to the next level. What you will soon see is other cruise lines trying to get the headline acts with name recognition. The combination of Blue Man, Second City and the Cirque show is quite a combo!

If one has never seen or heard of BMG, go to youtube and type them into the search bar. There are several videos of their performances. They are great but seeing them live is FANTASTIC!

I agree, totally awesome in person! Multi-sensory, multi-media, sometimes leaving you wondering, "how do they do that?!" The guy we were with (sister's fiance) ended up being part of the show...never laughed so hard. If you sit up front...they give you ponchos...overall very clever entertainment...very unique. On Blue Man Group's website they announce they are going freestyling so I suppose the partnership is mutually beneficial.

I was part of the promo team at Luxor where they were performing. The drummer took ill & I was emergency person to get one out to them. I called a Vegas band who was off & got their drummer to go to Luxor & he took the job for $1000 to be the star. I was front & center and was given a bag of marshmellows. Then their promo dept shows, meets me & I am told to throw marshmellows at them during the 2nd song & they catch them in their mouths. Some had 7 & still room. I was soaked since no ponchos were used back then. Luxor passed out the 2 first rows what they use for Gallagher & his watermellons (plastic sheets). Folks were part of the show & loved it. The audience is the voice since they do not talk. The show is like no other & $100 PP in Vegas when they moved to Venetian.

Ok - I admit to being British and not really getting the whole Blue Man thing, and I am struggling to understand why this is so popular. However, I look forward to being convinced. But one thing concerns me - on the NCL webcast, did I hear that for 4 days the same show will be repeated in the main theatre. So.. does this mean they'll be no or few other theatre style events? We are on a b2b Christmas cruise 2010, so that means 8 days out of 14 will be the same show. I can't see how this can be a good thing.

Keep in mind the theater on the Epic is smaller and it will take all 8 performances for all 4200+ onboard to see Blue Man Group. Even with 8 shows they are working on a ticketing system. So you will only get one shot at Blue Man each week. That leaves 3 nights for other options in main theater. There is no way to have different shows every night as 3/4 of the passengers would not get a chance to see them.

Lots of other options on this very non traditional ship. You can do Cirque Dreams one night in the big-top, Second City comedy in the club, Show every night outside Aft at Spice H2O, .........

so by January we will know who the other big name is.

BMG will do the same show to adapt to this showroom, so at 600 people per show a night devided by 4200 people onboard, so everyone sees it. They are international show of excellence. So for FREE we are being given one great show.

Then the 2nd act will do the second show or BMG will do 2 shows a night for 3 nights and the second show goes for 3 nights. No clue to tell you with yet. No word on a Production show, as I was told it will be different from other NCL ships.

Possibly. It's been discussed but those positions haven't been decided yet. Will let you know if he does.

Unlike most ships, instead of going to the main theatre every night for a show, you will go to different venues to see shows. Smaller, more intimate venues but plenty of choices for the amount of passengers on board.

Hardly FREE. ;) You're just paying for it up front in your cruise fare.

Did anybody else catch BMG on Discovery Channel's show Time Warp (http://dsc.discovery.com/videos/time-warp-blue-man-group-and-more/)? Pretty cool to see the visual effects slowed way down by the Time Warp crew.

Being that my cruise cost for 7 days next Sept. is $599, +$100 OBC, that's fine with me to consider it as having been paid up front in my cruise fare.:)
