Thanks so much. We are on the Zaandam in March, and we can hardly wait. I really enjoy your blog and pop in at least once a day.

Interesting comments on the ventriloquist.
We were on the same cruise and I thought the ventriloquist was amazing, he was one of the best I have seen. On the other hand his material and show were horrible.

I would have thought we would be able to see a picture of all the towel animals. What a great day you had.

I have yet to go through all my photos, but I added it to the part of October 5 where I talked about it, just because you asked! :)

Great Blog. Just got done showing the family the picture of the towel animals. They all laughed. That was pretty good.
Really looking forward to the Zaandam for the October 23rd cruise to Hawaii.

We sailed on the Zaandam on the Hawaii Circle Tour. This ventriloquist
made an extremely crude anti-Gay joke. We wrote Holland America, only
to receive a form letter.
Members of the LGBT community are still Second Class Citizens. They do
not have equal rights and should not be subjected to jokes.

Couldn't say for certain if it was the same guy or not, but jokes of that nature would never be okay'd ahead of time. I think one of two things might have happened with this entertainer on your cruise, whoever he might have been:
1) It might have been added last minute and without approval in which case something of that nature would have been addressed by a combination of the Cruise Director and/or corporate Entertainment staff.
2) Many times there can be a fine line between funny and offensive, and it can be hard for someone in a comedy-related performance to "guage" their audience sometimes. Perhaps something said was intended in good fun, but obviously not seen that way by you and perhaps others as well. As I wasn't there though, I could not say for certain.
Nevertheless, I'm sorry that the experience you relay happened to you. That is never the goal of anyone in the company! Of that, I can assure you.
