View Full Version : Some doubts on Epic
RMS Olympic
October 14th, 2009, 10:00 PM
I booked the Sept 11th 2010 not having sailed NCL since 2000.
I am under the impression that Epic will be an ala carte ship......pay as you go.
Do all the dining venues come with a surcharge?
how many "public rooms" require a surcharge to enter?
if this is the case...total cost to sail her comes out much higher than most mass market ships....
Anyone know what rooms come at a charge?

That is an incorrect impression fostered by misinterpretations of very preliminary press releases about the Epic. The ship will have dining rooms that are included as part of the cruise fare, as well as additional charge specialty dining venues. This is no different than current NCL ships, although some of the dining venues will be unique to the Epic.

All I can add is there are as many if not more options of places to eat with no surcharge as any other main stream line. The fact they have added a number of addition surcharge options allows you to customize your cruise. The two unique main dining rooms Taste and the Mahattan Club with dancing have no surcharge. An action station restuarant that replaces the tradition buffet no surcharge. O'Sheehans is the neighbor bar with food like burgers and wings no surchage. There is a charge to bowl there. Throw in the great outdoors to eat poolside and the adults only aft area Spice H20 that the said will be serving chinise food - no surcharge.
As far as rooms. They only ones with a charge that come to mind is the dinner show in the Spiegel Temt with Cirque Dreams and the ice bar that comes with drinks at no addition charge.
Rooms with no cover include the main theather with Blue Mand Group performing 8 times on a 7 day cruise. Second City in the Comedy club. Many more options and more to be annouced.
As I think you can see there are as many free options as any ship but yes there is far more then you will find on any other ship that are optional.

The Epic is no more "la carte" than most other mainstream cruise line. Yes, you will pay extra if you want alcohol, sodas, spa treatments or to gamble - the same as most other non inclusive ships. The Epic is offering more specialty restaurants for its guests to choose from but you are not required to eat in them.

The short answer is that there will be more free things to do than on another other NCL ship.

All the shows are free. Cirque Dreams is a specialty restaurant with their tent so the $15 charge PP.
So you have Blue Man Group, Legends in Concert, Howl at the Moon, Second City and more coming. SO that puts EPCI at #1 for a cruise ship in my book. And the shows change very 4 months so you can keep sailing on Epic without boredum setting in.
The Ice Bar has a charge that cover 2 drinks PP.
