Sometimes I daydream and think maybe on our next cruise, I am going to settle myself comfortably into my cabin and not emerge for days. :D
It seems like it could be so calming and restoring to take days on end to just rest, read, sit in a bubble bath, watch a movie, watch the waves and swells from the veranda, draw in deep clean sea air, order room service..... Disappear from the world.
Does that sound at all appealing to you?
Can you imagine doing that?

Not only can I imagine it, I actually do it for at least a day or two on each cruise. It's amazingly relaxing and something I really look forward to.

I totally can. I try to do that on at least one sea day. I alternate between my suite and the hydro pool. The most relaxing day ever!

Sail!!! You are right here in my head :D We have had a houseguest for 3 weeks (he just left). We are doing a B2B on the Westerdam 10/25. I told my husband we are not emerging from our cabin the first week!!!!!! The second week our son and DIL are joining us, that will be plenty of time to enjoy the ship!!
Realistically speaking, we probably won't stay in our cabin the whole week :D I must say, I do spend a lot of time on our balcony reading on sea days while hubby is at the Casino. Works for us.
Cheers, Denise

Funny, I just mentioned that this morning! Oh yeah, just like the old Calgon commercial. Take me away or something funny like that. I'll trade places with the complainy ones who never see their cabin steward or something like that. I always find that funny.:)

Sail I could do that very easily.
There is something to be said about just vegging out once in a whil and just reading a good book or watching a good movie, or laying out on teh veranda and staring at the ocean.
Not just on a cruise, but every now and then at home I get a whole day when everyone is out of the house, and just lay in my recliner and watch old movies i store on my DVR just for such an occasion.
If I could teach my dog to bring me food and drinks like Uncle Joe on Petticoat Junction I would be all set.

On sea days, either on deck or on our verandah....many, many times I will stare off across the water to the horizon and just daydream...almost hypnotic.
I was just discussing this with my DH and how some people specifically book aft cabins just to watch the wake and dream.

Not me. I want to go go go.
The only time I have ever stayed in my cabin for one whole day or more was on my last cruise. Me and most of the rest of the passengers had bad head colds. So in between Kusadasi and Athens I worked real hard to rest and try and get better with a nice bottle of Nyquil from the infirmary. Was pretty miserable. I hated not being able to go to dinner, casino etc.... didnt even feel like hanging out on the balcony. To me the ship is secondary to the ports...... a moving hotel.

I have only 2 excursions planned during our B2B Caribbean cruise 7-21 February. Both are Clamshells at HMC!!! I may do a swim with the Dolphin Academy in Curacao, but have not decided yet.
I also have 2 M&G's (for both legs of the cruise) that I am coordinating.
Other than those, I am lazing back, soaking up rays on my verandah and doing absolutely nothing!! So yeah, I can picture it!!:D

i used to feel just that way when i was a working wife and mother with two demanding kids.
but now i am retired and living in a beautiful vacation spot in south florida. even on sea days, i like to go, go, go. i want to visit ports, and talk to all kinds of new people, and go on excursions, and play ship games and dance.
my vacations are now vacations from vacation, lol.

Have done a bit of hiding out when on cruises, but not a lot. One Princess cruise I stayed in the cabin a lot, de-stressing. It was good. My life now is much less stressful, so don't really feel the need.
Now, all my stress leaves as soon as we cross the gangway and get onboard :D

I have to admit that I have done this. Sometimes it's just so nice to chill out. If I have 2 or 3 sea days to travel then I feel I should do it! I will tell you though, one time I cruised solo and I did it and that was the best! Room service, movies, room service, bubble bath, room service-you get the idea? My stateroom steward said to me, "are you sick? do you not want to go out today and sit in the sun? NO, NO! I want to be a hermet today, thank you... ;) It's all good!

NOPE -- as the years go by and we face more health issues there is no way that we would isolate ourselves in the cabin for even 1 full day.
We love to get out and about!!
Even when I ended up in a wheelchair for a couple of day on one of our cruises -- DH was a dear and pushed me everywhere.

I don't think I could stay put in the cabin for days and days ... though that is certainly a part of our daily routine. We spend 2 to 3 hours every afternoon enjoying the quiet of our cabin. We nap, read, watch the sea, and just let the world go by. Those couple of hours can be as restorative as a full nights sleep.

when I was younger we would board & have fun fun fun..did not matter about the cabin....
But as I got older I appreciated the peace I have at sea..years ago after my 2 brothers passed away I escaped for several 10 day cruises....the fresh air, deck chairs at day & nite were all I needed...hardly even went to the DR...
The last 2 years my parents were battling cancer - again I ran to sea for much needed R&R...after my Dad passed away I was able to get a week away....I never ate in the DR, had room service all the time and read some very good books...I came home refreshed and ready to face life again...

I don't think that I could stay completely holed up in my cabin for several days, but certainly I could spend many hours at a stretch during the day just hanging out, reading and watching the waves. I know for some, the thought of doing nothing is boring, but for me, it's complete indulgence. :p

Don't bother with the room, Copper.
You're all grown up now. :)
Happy to read others understand and some actually feel the way I do. I wouldn't do that for a whole cruise, of course. Could stay home and do that but a day or two sounds appealing.

I'm with you Sail, My next cruise only has five stops in 14 days. That's good to me. I'm going to be living on the tile loungers.

I'm getting roasted over on the the lifejacket thread so I'm over here now.
Yeah, I'm really ready for a a vaca. Yikes. I'm so worried about going away soon but so many have jumped up and offered to help my son so I guess we go.
I can't stand the smoking either Copper. I just don't talk about it at all.
love,
Susie
Boy, I'd buy you and Pipe a drink, I'll tell you that!:)

Well, Pipedreams....... :D
That'll certainly put a damper on their smoke, won't it! :)
Sure will keep it from drifting our way. :D

Why put up with the hassle of getting to the port and getting a suite?
Stay at home and hire 24 hour care.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, yesssss!
That would be EXACTLY my idea of how to deal with smoke on the balcony!
Thanks for clearing the air, pipedreams!:)
