I've just received my express docs :) for my December '09 cruise. When do you usually complete the docs? Should I wait until it's closer to the cruise or do it now? Any tips or suggestions for these docs? I've never sailed HAL before. Thanks-

Do them as soon as you want, why wait. No advantage. Once completed, it's one less item to remember. They should be ready to be printed as well.

If you fill everything out now, you'll get an email notice from HAL when your documents are available for printing. If you wait, you may get a call from your TA telling you that HAL wants you to fill them out.
I recently got the email. My procrastinating brother got the call. :D

Our passport are in the process of being renewed, we leave 11/15. The information I got says that if we don't complete the docs at least three days ahead of time, we must do immigration forms at the pier, requiring us to check-in at least 3 hours before departure.

I'm confident the passports will be here in the next week or so, but wondered if I couldn't just use my old passport info...

Each time I've renewed my passport, I've had a different passport number on the renewed passport. Since you must provide your passport number, I think you'd better wait until the passports arrive.
I think you can fill in all the other info though and then complete the online info with the passport number when it arrives.

I can't really imagine what would take 3 hours at the dock that I can do in 10 minutes at home.

Yeah, I had to dig emergency contact info for my Mom-in-law...flight home info, passport #, credit card info.

Certainly not brain surgery - but DH didn't want me to enter credit card info yet for fear of security breach (sigh) but when the email came yesterday for us to print out our edocs, I pried the card out of his hand and completed his info this morning.

So I'm doin' the e-doc dance...woo-hoo! The only thing left is to find out what balcony cabin we get.

I'm just quoting the information I got with my e-docs. It says:

"If for some reason you have not completed your Online Check-in process at least 3 days prior to departure, you will still be able to print your Express Docs, including the boarding pass, up to the departure date. However, you will be required to complete the immigration forms at the pier on the day of departure. Please arrive at the pier at least 3-hours prior to scheduled sailing time to ensure you have time to complete the process. Guests who have not completed the required check-in prior to departure time are subject to denied boarding."

Basically, what that tells me is that the immigration form must be done online at least three days ahead of time (which hasn't changed) but you can still print the docs up to the day of departure (which is new - it used to be three days as well, if I recall) and they probably advise 3 hours for those who need to to it at the pier because some people will always wait until the last minute to do everything, lol!
