Hi All: Read on another thread that Zuidy could not stop in Puerto Limon - anyone have any additional news on this? How can we find out if there will be a change in an upcoming itinerary? Anyone have an idea what an alternative port might be?

There isn't always an alternative port. Often if a port is missed, it is not possible to arrange for an alternate port call.

Hope any problems in Costa Rica are safely resolved and no one is hurt.

We were on the Zuidy, the problem was a Dock Workers Strike. The port didn't notiify the ship until we arrived. We had a medical emergency onboard so the dock workers let the passenger disembark to the ambulance but they wouldn't let the passengers get off.
The Captain did get off and spoke with officials down on the dock but his negotiations were not successful. We sat alongside the dock for about two hours then backed off to the bay for awhile and then the Captain announced we would be leaving.

There was not enough time left in the cruise to make arrangements for an alternate port so we just started heading for Ft. Lauderdale.

Other than that we had a fantastic cruise!

I did some internet searches on this as well.

Apparently, the strike started on Tuesday. Zuiderdam arrived wednesday morning, and were assured the night before that they would honor the contract to "work" the cruise ship - however, as has been reported by me and others, that was not the case.

The police came in and broke up the strike and an accord was reached sometime on Friday.

One report stated that a Carnival ship also missed the stop (which Carnival ship was supposed to hit Costa Rica on Thursday or Friday last week)?
