I have been visited by the upgrade fairy for Dec.11 on the Veendam. I was just given my cabin assignment and it is on the lower promenade deck with a window looking out the aft (421) . I am concerned about privacy with people walking around the deck.... will we even be able to keep our curtains open??? If anyone has any info regarding this cabin, please respond...
Thanx

I was on the Veendam on the lower promenade deck in 2002, in cabin 362. Unless somebody put their face next to the glass they could not see in and then only barely. However the material that restricts vision in varies by ship and perhaps by cabin. Sunlight may or may not be a factor.Guess you will have to experiment for yourself.
See you on the Veendam on Dec. 11th.

We've been in cabins on the promenade deck - and IMHO, think they are great if you can't get a balcony. People try to look in (how rude!), but can't see much - but you can look out at them! You have easy access outside - and I've even gone outside in my bathrobe (if no one was around) to check the weather. You may hear some noises in the early morning as the crew hoses down the deck and moves chairs around. Enjoy your cabin!

Its very disconcerting if you're in an exposed state seeing folks wandering past - even if you know that they can't see in it feels weird...
And they can see in in the evenings when its brighter inside than out...

Hah! the DW decided to see if she could see into our cabin from the lower promenade deck, and stuck her face right up to the window and shielded the sun out with her hands . . . and found out it wasn't our cabin. The folks inside waved to her.

Dont they close that section down at night ???? I would find some deck chairs to put in front of my windows so they couldnt get close enough to look in :)

Thanks for all the responses. I wasn't sure about the privacy. I'm happy we were upgraded to an outside, but I was afraid I would never be able to open my blinds! I will surely test out the visiblity the first day.

on the Veendam in August, and I loved the location. I loved having the LP just steps away. Have a wonderful cruise.

I'm sure I will have a fantastic time. I can't wait to post my review when I return. I am thrilled with my upgrade....and surprised since the cruise is sold out=)

Our last trip was on the Rotterdam and we too had an outside room on the Prom Deck and wondered the same thing about the window so I have to share this little experience with all......... It seems the crew was working outside our room doing some chipping and painting one morning. We were up eating breakfast in our room and the curtains were open. I noticed one of the crew members, who happened to be chipping right above the window, stoop down and look into the window from close up. That's when I wondered if he could see in the room? Thinking he may do it again I decided to put my face on the inside approximately where he looked in just in case he would try it again. As fate would have it he did and I think he was so shocked he almost fell off the scaffolding, needless to say he did not do it again. The moral is that, as some have said, if you get up close you can make out some parts of the room, etc. That was our laugh for the day!
