I am new to HAL. Do you think I can make an 11am flight after the cruise?

We've always made this flight with enough time to spare to eat a leisurely breakfast in the gate area.

However, others will point out horror stories about ships arriving late, clearing problems, etc.

I would recommend a flight that leaves early afternoon. With increased security at FLL it will be tight.

You may make it and there is always a chance you may not. If you are able to get another flight a bit later, like noon or so, it would be better. But then again, last March I was at the airport by 10 a.m.

Try to check and see how many cruise ships are returning on the same day as you. We have had three experiences flying out of FLL. On the first two we were so early that we were ableto hop on a late am flight (since we had booked late pm and didn't want to wait around). Last Feb it seemed that every ship on the face of the earth was trying to get the entire population of the cold northeast to a plane flying out of FLL. We had a 3pm flight and they would not even take our luggage until after noon. It was a mess!!!

The Internet Cafes on the ships all have printers.

Definitely check to see how many ships will be in Ft Lauderdale.

And don't forget that some passengers from Miami may also be flying out of FLL.

We have flown into FLL on Satursday and Sundays (arrival time usually around 11:30) and have seen that place in complete chaos - and many people were missing flights. Winter months is a big season for Ft Lauderdale.

Our October 30 Maasdam cruise did not arrive in port until after 9:30 AM, and disembarkation did not start until after 10, due to mechanical problems. At around 10:00 AM of the last sea day the Captain announced that one of the generators was down and we would be arriving late. Those in our group either lived locally, drove to the pier or had late enough flights that there were no problems. But anyone with an 11:00 AM flight would have been in trouble.

Although under normal circumstances an 11:00 AM flight would work, you have to ask yourself if it's worth taking a chance. After hearing the captain's announcement how much would you have enjoyed that last day knowing that you might not make the flight?

It's not worth an extra couple-hundred dollars for the aggravation and stress of possibly missing your flight.

There's a reason that flight is so cheap - it's meant for non-cruise passengers. I'd rebook for later...

Your right, I don't need that stress. So I booked two flights home. The one I don't use I will have the credit to use for a year. Thanks!

I have booked 11:20 and 11:30 flights and made them in plenty of time, but I always have Plan B.
I do realize things can go wrong, that causes me to miss the flight and may even have to pay a fee. I am always prepared to deal with this.

Good Luck making your flight and have a nice cruise. :)

If you go to www.cruisecal.com (http://www.cruisecal.com) you can check to see which ships will be in Ft Lauderdale the day you will embarking.

Tell the cruise staff about your flight time and they may be able to give you an early time to leave the ship. Otherwise, they recommend 12 as the earliest time.

No real need to check if you sailing during the Winter. There will always be 7 or 8 ships arriving on any Saturday or Sunday. Airport will be a mad house. That is a given. Making the flight really depends on
- Which airline you are flying
- Does ship arrive on time
- Time you leave ship - no problems with non-US passengers reporting
