We are sailing on the Volendam on March 30 and will drive to Ft. Lauderdale. The parking garage charges $12 per day so we're wondering if there is a good hotel/motel nearby that allows you to leave your car if you spend a night?

Embassy Suites has valet attended parking directly on 17th Street in their lot- would say that is about as safe as you could find leaving your car for an extended stay at a hotel. It was $6/day last year.
Amerisuites has unattended parking off 17th Street- no fee to leave your car. It was not safe enough for us to leave our car there, but others feel differently.
We have always left our car in the parking deck at the port itself and have never heard of a problem.

Hey Peaches...are you the "Peaches" that works at a middle school with my mother, Becky? If so..HI!
Okay, to the topic now. My family is sailing on the Zuiderdam on 12/18 and we're staying at the Amerisuites and planning to leave our vehicles there. Is it a sketchy part of town? I think that's where my mom stayed this summer and she left her car, but then again, it could have been at Embassy. Uh oh, now you've got me worried. We have a particularly nice car, and I would like for it to still be there when we return!
Anyone else have thoughts on Amerisuites?

We stayed at the Amerisuites on 17th Ave. on the night before our 14 day btb cruise on the Zuiderdam in May, 2003. Enjoyed the very good, included continental breakfast on the morning of the cruise. We left our car in their parking lot free of charge for the two week cruise. It was there when we returned! We thought it was a very good deal.

Hi Peaches! We stay at the Spring Hill Suites in FLL. They provide special palces for cruise parking and at no charge! If you fly in they will pick you up at the airport and for a small fee take you to the port terminal when you are ready to go there. We have used them twice now.

Try the Sleep Inn, they have mini suites, free transporation, breakfast and they don't charge for extra adults in the room. The motel is new.
