We (DW & I) will be flying up to Seattle for our Oosterdam cruise next May, the day before embarkation. So, we will not be going straight from the airport to the ship. I think there are two different cruise ship piers up there. If so, which pier does HAL use? Also, are there any hotels within walking distance of the HAL pier? Thanks!

If it is the same pier that the Amsterdam used a couple of years ago, it is pier 30. There weren't any Hotels near there.

HAL and Princess both use an area around pier 30. This is down the east waterway and is in an industrial area. The other pier is up around pier 66 but that has been used by Norweigen for the last few years. The HAL pier is not within reasonable walking distance from any hotels. Hope you enjoy your stay in Seattle.

Hi Bill, Here is a picture of the Oosterdam in Pier 30, it is very much an Industrial area all around.

consider a downtown Priceline hotel and the short cab ride. A cab from Seatac to downtown is about $25+++ You don't want to stay by pier 30. :)

Thanks everyone for all the good input! We will definitely look for a hotel in downtown Seattle-started looking today and lots of choices at the moment. I made our airline reservations last night, so the hotel is the last major piece of the cruising puzzle!

My favorite hotel in Seattle is the Edgewater -- it is built right on pier 67 (next to Norwegian's pier 66 so during the summer there is almost always a ship at pier 66) -- half of the rooms have huge windows that are right on the water -- sort of like a stationary cruise ship -- they have a wonderful bar and a pricey but delightful restaurant on the premises. The staff can never do enough for you. The rooms come with rubber duckies and in the winter are heated by a gas fireplace that in December is incredible but rather useless in the summer. It is a walk to location for many things on the water front -- the hotel also provides shuttle service downtown and to "the fish throwing place" (the public market). Watch the internet. Sometimes there are deals.

My sister lives in Seattle and when we visit with my Mom we never want to stay anywhere else. We are spoiled.

Staying at a good downtown Seattle hotel is just that- staying at a good downtown business hotel. Staying at the Edgewater is truly staying in Seattle- a special hotel in a very special city. My son lives in Seattle and we wouldn't stay anywhere else, nor would he advise us to. ;)
