Hi, we are driving the rental car from MCO area hotel to MIA the day of embarkation. I just wonder if I should take I-95 or 91? 91 seems to be shorter in distance but I might have to stop multiple times to pay toll and it costs more. Thx

Take Florida Turnpike to Ft Pierce. Go East 1 mile and get on 95 South.

Shortest and least confusing route.

you can buy a daily Sunpass which costs I think $6 and there is no stopping at the tolls.
We use the Turnpike often for this trip, with a stop for coffee it takes about
4 hrs max.

If you were to buy the $6.00 sunpass would this be your total charge for the turnpike or would you be billed more? Just wondering as the last time I took the Turn Pike from the Orlando area to Miami, the price was more than $6.00.

I agree the turn pike would be the way to go. What is 91?

$6 is the price for the device then the tolls are billed to your credit card.

Definitely the turnpike. We have done this drive numerous times and it is the quicker route.

I agree turnpike. I believe the tolls are somewhere around $12.

We will be driving down to FLL - Port Everglades.
I am assuming that the FL Turnpike is the quickest easiest route.

Can somebody please be specific about how the Daily Sunpass works?
You actually place a device in your vehicle?

Is there a weekly Sunpass?
Or is it simply $6.00 per day until you return the thing?

It would save a bit of time at toll booths - but it sounds like you would have to pull into a Travel Plaza at the beginning of the day, and again at the end of the day.

Thanks

Do a Google search for Florida Sun Pass for the details.

Thanks!
I am usually good at doing a search to find the info I need, but I hadn't done that...

I just pulled up Sunpass, and I do not see any daily pass offered.
Maybe this is something that is no longer available?

I see the full transponder, which cost $25.00 to buy. (so that wouldn't be the way to go)

And, they have the MiniPass, a credit card sized stick-on, for only $4.99. Which I believe comes with a toll credit for the $4.99.

These are a pre-paid type of system. So, I am assuming (if these are available to out of state visitors) one would want to estimate the tolls needed, and put that much (plus a little more) on the account.

They have a neat toll-calculator on the website!!!
I requested the total toll all the way from I-75 North of Orlando to FLL.
I didn't write down the exact numbers, but I think it was just over $17.00 each way when paying cash at the booths, and just over $13.00 when using SunPass.

So, if it is possible to to do this - a Mini Pass stick-on with $30.00 would get us from I-75 down to FLL and back.

Maybe it would be easier to stop and pay cash at all the toll-booths than to try to research and figure it all out!!! Hahahahaha!!!! :)

Don't stress. It will probably only save you about 10 seconds at each toll booth. The entire trip will be less than five minutes you'd save.

Does anyone know if the FL turnpike accepts the NYS EZ Pass? I know several states around NY do but unsure of FL. Thanks for any help.:)

You can buy a non-transferrable SunPass at most grocery stores. They have to be adhered to the front windscreen. The cost is $5, and you get that back in your tolls. You do need to register a credit card on-line, and then the pass is refilled as you use it.

I don't know if you could stick the pass to a piece of Saran Wrap and then tape that on your windscreen, rather than sticking it on the glass and later having a heck of a time peeling it off.

Definitely take the turnpike. We took it in April and stayed on it all the way to Miami --- then just about 2 turns to the port. From Melbourne it was under 3 hours to the Port, and I think it is about the same distance from the south end of Orlando.

If you're using a GPS, it's best to double and triple check the directions on mapquest and bing as there is construction. Our GPS sent us off track once we got into Miami, and we finally had to go back to a paper map to get us where we needed to be.
