Ummmmm, I love the idea of a Queenstown tour option. They do every crazy thing I love there. :)
This cruise might be a real possibility for January 2006.
Anyone know, though, how long it takes to fly to Austrailia?

Let's see - when we went last spring we flew LAX-Auckland and returned Sydney-LAX.
DEPART 31MAR04 LOS ANGELES 2040
ARRIVE 02APR04 AUCKLAND 0510
that's 32 hours but coming back is quicker -
DEPART 11APR04 SYDNEY 1050
ARRIVE 11APR04 LOS ANGELES 0710
since you arrive 3 and a half hours before you leave!
But, adjusting for time zones, it was 13 hours to Auckland and 13 and a half return from Sydney. It is, indeed, a long time in a plane. Oh, and don't watch ABC's "LOST" series on Wednesday nights!

Hi Dave, (Kiwi Kruiser)
Will you be going on one of the Statendam cruises? It sure is a great itinerary and I am thrilled that it will be coming to Melbourne on each trip.
We may do the Sydney to Hong Kong leg in 2007 - January-February 2006 is our South America trip.

Oh ... MY ... GOD!
I honestly don't think I could handle that. I almost died back in 2000 when I flew to Maui ... being cooped up in an airplane for such a long period of time ... I get very antsy ... even Xanex didn't help.
I think if I really wanted to do this sort of a cruise, I would have to find something that maybe left from the West Coast ... or at the very least went "circle" from Hawaii. Then I could fly Hawaii to the mainland ... spend a day or so on the left coast, and then return home to the east coast. But flying all the way to New Zealand ... sadly, as much as I would love to visit the area, I just doubt I'd be able to handle the flight. Sucks. :(

Kyros,
You poor thing. How would you like to live here with your flying trouble and not be able to fly anywhere else in the world. The flight between Australia and the U.S. is considered a small flight by us here. We have been flying to Europe for the past 11 years and it can take from 24-36 hours.
We are actually doing a non stop next July, Singapore to New York which will take 18 hours and is the longest non stop flight in the world.
When I was a lot younger I had to take medication to board a plane. I knew that I had to get over that feeling of being cooped up in a plane and also the fear of flying as I realized that living here the only way to see the world was to use planes and I wanted to travel. As well I am claustrophobic.
With will power I conquered that fear of flying and for the past 20 years I have enjoyed boarding a plane. I usually read a good book or watch the movies, have a sleep and generally enjoy the time doing nothing. The time does go by quite quickly especially if you can fit in a 6 hour sleep.
Jennie.
