Thought someone else might enjoy this as well...

It's the similarities between the Nieuw Amsterdam, Queen Elizabeth and Costa Deliziosa, all currently under construction at Fincantieri.

Um, those first two sketches are quite old and rather inaccurate...

The first is of Eurodam with it's original stern design which was raked like the Noordam, Costa Mediterraneana, Costa Atlantica, Carnival Legend, Carnival Pride and Carnival Spirit. While Eurodam was being built, CCL/HAL decided to make the stern completely vertical to squeeze in more cabins. Also not shown here are the dozen cabins added to Deck 10 ahead of the Magrodome which eliminated the skylight above the Thassolotherapy pool - this addition is upon which the Retreat Cabanas now reside.

The second image is actually of Queen Victoria which has the original Vista Class-style raked stern. Queen Elizabeth will also have the Eurodam's completely vertical stern - as shown in the last image of the Costa Luminosa and Costa Deliziosa.

Thanks Brian. I knew the "Eurodam/Nieuw Amsterdam" image wasn't 100% as it didn't show the Retreat area and the aft looked a little too sloped. I had no idea that Queen Elizabeth was going completely vertical and not keep with Queen Victoria's look. Also, as far as the Signature Class sketch is concerned, I wouldn't call it completely vertical. I think the 'Deliziosa' sketch is a proper representation of the angle.

If anyone was curious, these images are all from the Fincantieri website.

This appears to be the most recent deck plans for the QE...

http://www.cunard.co.uk/QE_Flash_deckPlans/pdf/QE_deckplans.pdf

What I don't understand though, is how they can get the guest capacity within 14 of Nieuw Amsterdam (based on double occ) without having as many staterooms on the aft half of Deck 1. Where are they making up the difference, because I apparently am not seeing it.

A couple things to remember:

QE has no exterior midship elevators - That adds a pair of suites or a quartet of standard cabins per deck: 5 decks above the Promenade and one below equals between 32 and 48 additional berths.

QE is also longer than NA by @ 10 meters/30 feet. That adds up to 3 standard cabins/deck/side, plus up to 3 or even 6 inside cabins (depending on size of cabin & location of the stretch) per cabin deck, which could result in up to 144 additional berths.

The (Practically) vertical stern adds up to 4 cabins each (two outsides, two insides) on decks 5 and 6, 8 more cabins (4 outsides, 4 insides) on deck 7, and up to 12 cabins (6 outsides & 6 insides) on deck 8 to the Noordam stern, resulting in up to 56 more lower berths.

Max out these changes and you could have up to 248 berths added to the Noordam capacity...
...However Cunard aren't maxing out capacity with QE - she only has 140 more passengers than Noordam as a result of the much larger suites on her stern and midship areas, larger inside staterooms and much of the added inside spaces used as cabins and workspaces for the 200 additional crew.

Great observations. That certainly makes sense, and I agree that both Cunard and HAL don't maximize every single centimeter onboard. That's left to the more mainstream brands (have you seen how many inside rooms fit across on Oasis? The deck plans make you feel as though those Studio rooms on Epic are palaces by comparison) :)

Just watched a special on a channel I never knew existed "HD Theater" that had a behind the scenes on QM2. It first aired only a couple months ago so must be footage that's only a few months old. Very cool stuff as the only other QM2 video I've seen is the same one most have seen by now which goes into all the details of building the ship.

The Luminosa and Deliziosa are actually a hybrid of two designs: The Spirit Class and the Vista Class. The bow and stern are derived from the Vista Class, while the body and layout is based on the Spirit Class. I really hope that Carnival would get one of these ships.
