Booking Guarantee with HAL

We are considering a cruise this August and when I went the HAL website to check on availability, it appeared that there was ONE price for a category- whether it was for a specific cabin or a guarantee of that type. I thought the price was a little more to book a specific cabin. (ie: D cabin, D guarantee- I did not see a separate price.:confused:) We have always gone through our TA- and we will this time too. Just checking what the ball park figures are for dreaming/planning purposes. ;)

1) Are they really the same price?
2) Did I miss something?

To my understanding, guarantees are normally the same price as selecting a specific cabin. The only thing a guarantee gets you is a better chance for an upgrade.
No, I don't believe you're missing anything here.

HAL guarantees are always the same price as a specific cabin in that category. The guarantee gives you a better chance of an upgrade, but that isn't guaranteed. Guarantees give HAL more flexibility and in return you get a better chance at an upgrade. Guarantees work well for us because we would be happy with any cabin that category or higher and we aren't fussy about location.

The last cruise we did a Guarantee verandah (VH), and got a verandah (VC). We were happy with that, as much as we hoped for an S Suite:D. We booked the guarantee, knowing full well we could end up with something we loved or something we didnt like so much, but I would do it again in a heartbeat!

We almost always book a guarantee. If we are on the ship we are happy. We have been extremely lucky with our guarantees. We almost always get upgraded from an inside to an outside, at the very least. Others say don't expect that kind of upgrade but as I said we've been fortunate.
