I was reading on the Dutch Night thread that someone had "purchased" a packet of menus... I have never heard of this.
We just got off the Noordam last month and I received the menus packet (as always) under my door the night before the final evening onboard. This set was even signed by Executive Chef Pedro (a great chef!), the F/B Manager, Maitre 'D and the Hotel Manager.
I didn't have to pay for the set. Is this something new since last month?
I hope not.

Ekerr, last March on the Rotterdam, you had to buy the menu's for the week that they always gave you on all the other sailings I have been on. I think they were $10, something like that. Perhaps the suite people are given theirs, but on the Rotterdam, you had to buy them. I did not buy mine as I have so many of them at home, I just didn't feel it necessary.
When I have received these menus in the past, we got them from our dining room steward, never under our cabin door.

I think you were on the very last voyage of the Noordam by HAL and had also been on the maiden voyage. Maybe they made a present of them to you.
On the Statendam last May we had to purchase the menu packet if we wanted them and they were not signed by anyone.

I had no idea... we got them on the Maasdam last April, I don't recall being charged for them - they weren't signed, but they were under the door and we weren't in a Suite... very odd.
I can understand the Noordam set being a gift perhaps, but because we received them on the Maasdam, I just assumed we would continue to do so... I don't think I would like to have to PAY for them. :(

Ekerr, the year before when I sailed on the Volendam, we did get them, free and were given to us by our dining room steward. Not this past year on the Rotterdam. We'll have to see what the Volendam brings this next time!!!

Yes, we will and I can't wait. :D I hope they are not going to try and charge me for them - talk about nickle and diming the pax!
Are you ready? We have our final payment due 1/4/05 - nice timing, right after Christmas... and our kids have Christmas Wish lists a mile long! I can't believe how quickly it is approaching! Did you get your hotel for 3/11 yet? We are flying in 3/19 and staying at the Renaissance.

Don't be surprised if they do.
Yes, I did get a hotel thru priceline for March 11th, got the Radisson, so we're happy. Staying at the Marriott on March 19th, happy with that as well.
Cold here in New England today, can't wait to escape the cold for a bit.
I have my final payment due on the Zuiderdam 12/27 (Merry Christmas to me!!) and then the final payment due on the Volendam January 4th as well. It will be here before we know it, can't wait!!!!

Did you get a Noordam tile on your cruise? We sailed her this summer and didn't get one - I forgot about it until we got home.

It sounds so sporadic - some are getting them at no charge and some aren't... I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

Laura, we just paid our finally payment last week, it hurt worse than planned since a few weeks ago I bumped it up to a suite. As far as the menus I have never heard of getting them unless you were in a suite let alone buying them. We were in B catagories on both the Zuirderdam and the Oosterdam. Since we were in a Suite on the Ryndam we did get them but we only got 5 of the nights. We never saw the first night or 4th night but then we had reservations for the Pinnacle that night so maybe that is why we did not get them.
