We are on the 3/28 Ryndam Western Caribbean cruise. There was no info for booking the excursions for Roatan. I called Holland and was told they are working on them and if they aren't set by the time we cruise, we can do private tours ourselves.

What do you think is going on? Could it be the unrest in Hondorus? It seems other cruise lines are going there.

This is a new pier and independent tours are not allowed in. Don't know why the cruise ship does not have tours. This would be a good beach port if you like the beach. Search the boards as there is a lot written on the port and some pictures.

We will most likely go to the beach, but I'm wondering if any other Holland cruise that went to Roatan had any excursions to book.

It may be that the new Mahogany Bay facility only recently opened that they are still developing shore Excursions? Although they would probably be similar to what was previously offered on Roatan Island.

The new resort/pier area has its own website at www.mahoganybaycc.com (http://www.mahoganybaycc.com) if you want to check it out.

Apparently Roatan island has been unaffected by the political problems on the mainland.

It is interesting that HAL has no shore exclusions yet.

This port facility and infrastructure was developed and built by Carnival Corporation.

At least now they admit that Mahogany Bay IS on Roatan. When I called, they told me that we weren't going to Roatan, we'd be going to Mahogany Bay instead  We sail Jan 17, and there's still nothing listed for us for Roatan either.

In 2008 the tours for Roatan for our cruise did not show up and 1 month before the cruise.

There are a bunch of threads on this exact topic. Not too worried. It will be a relaxation and beach day for us probably.

I was there about a year ago, before the new area was open.
On the recommendations of many in the ports of call section,
went with Fins and Flippers, which has recently changed its name.
it is a private island that you take a short ferry ride to get to.
nice facilities, and the food at the snack bar by the pools is really good.

here is their new website address:
