I know there have been a few discussions on this subject before but I thought I would mention what recently worked for us.

Our flight home was scheduled for 7:15PM on a Sunday evening. We had considered the Everglades tour or going to the casino as mentioned on these boards. Our Pre cruise stay was at the lovely Renaissance Hotel booked through Priceline and while we there I spoke with a helpful manager about her suggestions for a post cruise. It was at that time I found out about "Day Rates." Some of the hotels will allow guests to check in and use the facilities if they have a late flight. The rate quoted to us was $75. I also checked with Marriott Marina (just a 5 minute walk) and they offered the same rate. Neither of these hotels would make a reservation. You had to call after disembarking to check availability and you must call the hotel direct not the 800 number. We decided to try the Marrott Marina since it was closer to the water taxi and it gave us an opportunity to see another hotel. It was 10:30 AM and a gorgeous Florida day when we disembarked so I called the Marriott and indeed they had availability so we took a cab there and checked in. They gave us a nice room overlooking the pool. We enjoyed a swim in the morning and then took a water taxi ride down the intercostal ($5 all day pass) We had a nice outdoor lunch and returned to the hotel to watch some TV and rest before our flight. I felt that this option allowed us to enjoy an additional day of the wonderful weather and it sure beat sitting in a crowded airport.

I am not sure what kind of policies and rates other hotels might offer and also bear in mind that most of these hotels were booked solid on Saturdays for the Sunday cruises. It would have been an even better deal if we were traveling with some friends and could share the expense. The Marriott said that this would have been acceptable when I inquired.

I hope this information is helpful for those who wonder what to do when you have one of those late flights home!

We did this some years ago at Pier 66, however, I am sure we booked the day room in advance, or possibly when we were staying at the hotel pre-cruise. It was well worth the price they charged. We were able to have a swim in the pool, lunch outside and a nap before we headed to the airport. I think it's a great idea and you are more relaxed when you get home.
