View Full Version : Luggage Tags - Stupid Question

I figure these luggage tags in my docs folder just get tied onto each piece of luggage at the handle? The "Know Before You Go" info say to check your cruise docs arrival advice page for details on what to do with the luggage tags. But all my arrival page talks about is that I didn't book air through HAL, etc., etc. (I'm driving!). Also, I guess all I need to fill out on the tags are name and stateroom #. Is my real address necessary on the luggage tag? (I never do that - always use office address to protect my home while I'm away). Thanks! packing now for Wednesday's trip to Norfolk!

At minimum, put your name and stateroom number so that it gets to the correct room once aboard ship
Other than that - the rest really isn't necessary for you.

I heard and use this as a rule of thumb , never put your home address on your baggage. Always a business card, or your destination address. I guess am a little paranoid, but you never know who will get ahold or see your bags and they know you aren't home, and they have your address!!!!!

I have Cruise Critics luggage tags that I keep on both of the bags I use for travel. In each tag, I have a business card instead of manually writing in any information.
On the cruise line's tag, I just put name, business telephone number (which is actually my cell number), and cabin number.
Of course, the address on the business card is my home one, but nobody really knows that, now do they? :)

Besides the tags, I have tags with covers on the outside, pack at least one handwritten paper inside each bag.

I think of the HAL tags as being just for the cruise line people. In the past, I haven't put them on my bags until I was about to hand my baggage over to them, after retrieving it from the airline.

One plus of putting the cruise line's tag on your checked luggage before you leave home is that should your bag get delayed/misdirected along the way, they'll know where to deliver it (even though you tell them) and the ship's stewards will have the tag available as usual to get it to your cabin.

If your home telephone number is not unlisted, with just your name, city and/or state, one can find out your home address in under 5 seconds on the internet. I used to use my office address but don't bother anymore. As my DW says, great, she'lll get to buy all new stuff!
I put cruise line tags on both handles. I put a home address inside. After the Norway fire two years ago, we went home without our luggage. It was shipped to us ten days later.

If you have a cell phone put that number on each tag.
Once we left a bag at the terminal and they called us to get an address to ship it to UPS. Without some type of contact information how can they get in tough with you....
